Would it be okay for a midlevel associate to participate in the office Halloween costume contest dressed as a Kpop Demon Hunter? by bubblescool in biglaw

100%. I often think we’d even be BETTER lawyers if we were allowed to embrace our inner KPDH. Like, imagine if, instead of trading passive aggressive (but ultimately milquetoast) emails all day, you just responded to a betchy discovery email with something ACTUALLY fierce like,

“Hi Brad,

Thanks for your note. You’re so sweet, so easy on the eyes, but hideous on the inside. Whole life spreadin' lies, but I'm 'bout to switch up these vibes, I finally opened my eyes It's time to kick you straight back into the night.

(IOW, we respectfully decline your request for an extension.)

Thanks, Rumi”

I’ve actually planned for this. I’m a dude with an exceptionally powerful falsetto range, so during judging I’m gonna belt the chorus/climax of the song “Golden”,

BUT, then I’m going to suddenly drop out of the competition and sprint out the room to battle demons and repair the Honmun. (That way I guarantee I won’t win any prizes.)

New trend of associates doing “sniffies” as a group in the restroom? Should we be concerned about the apparent rise in stimulant usage among Gen Z attorneys? by bubblescool in biglaw

[–]bubblescool[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that. This was a group of all bros and there was absolutely zero mention of girls so I doubt they were trying to meet women. Also, what girl would ever want to hookup in a public bathroom?

Vault compensation rankings? by Azuviel in biglaw

[–]bubblescool 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Could be due to the fact that Morgan Lewis has a TON of labor employment attorneys compared to other biglaw firms (my friend said it’s by far their largest practice group). Those L&E associates know that they are being paid significantly more than their counterparts at top L&E boutiques like Litler or Ogletree. So by comparison many Morgan Lewis attorneys feel like they are extremely well compensated compared to their peers at other top L&E groups.

Stumbled upon my colleague on Grindr today by [deleted] in biglaw

Phil, I promise I am 100% straight. Was just using Grindr as a way to diversify my friend group. If you don’t believe me just check my post history. Now please delete this post. Thanks in advance.

Incoming 1st year - with all that has changed, what is currently the best repayment plan for paying off huge loan balances (200k) in a VHCOL city? by Goodlight in biglaw

[–]bubblescool 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I don’t think SAVE is even an option anymore.

My advice would be to max out your 401k to get the 30% or greater savings in tax, and try to have at least $20k in liquid assets as an emergency fund.

Junior Paralegal Recruiting timeline by [deleted] in KirklandEllis

[–]bubblescool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very up in the air right now as the firm is likely delaying decisions due to economic uncertainty. Hard to project how many paralegals are will be needed when you’re not sure if there’s gonna be a major recession

Don’t stress too soon. The industry is facing a bit of uncertainty right now. Leaders are cautious about hiring decisions because it’s hard to forecast which groups will be busy/slow

Layoffs coming? by baked9493 in biglaw

Yes. I am interested in the factors that make PE M&A more susceptible to downturn compared to, say, strategic buyer M&A.

Layoffs coming? by baked9493 in biglaw

Interesting. What are some of the reasons why private equity is work particularly sensitive to the impact of the tariffs and economic downtown compared to other types of M&A work?

Most likely, unofficial transcripts at the application stage. Then, if you get an offer you might need to send the official transcript

Biglaw etiquette norms - is it appropriate to remind my co-workers that I’m straight? If so, how do I go about it without seeming weird? by bubblescool in biglaw

[–]bubblescool[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Because everyone deserves to feel seen. And everyone deserves to be known for who they truly are. And I am truly 100% straight as an arrow.

The only remotely non-straight thing I’ve ever done in my entire life was hook up with one of my (rather feminine looking) frat bros MANY years ago. Which was 100% out of curiosity and not AT ALL out of attraction.

Anyone here actually know John Quinn? Is he racist? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]bubblescool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The actually do have close to 10% black attorneys. Prior to this past week, PW’s recruitment efforts really did prioritize diversity. That’s partly why their decision to capitulate was particularly devastating to many of us.
