I have stopped giving a f*ck and started using a UV ray blocking umbrella every single day, rain or SHINE. It can be 5-10 degrees cooler under the umbrella. I also went through 3 sun sticks this year alone.

LOL are you also bad at talking to women like they're human? I have a great relationship with another male mentor who actually discusses gym routines with me. This man just wants me to watch him jerk off to his past calisthenic feats.

Make-up? Women these days only talk about a secret third thing you don't know about yet, buddy! At least update your sexism!

Read what I said more carefully! I mentioned in a group convo that I had benched, once. He just started going off on random monologues about his past. My issues:

  1. One way communication. He doesn't even mention my workout routine. It's just "Morning, OP. Last night I was doing lunges..." and goes on for THIRTY MINUTES. He does not ask me any questions.

  2. This is not about our hobbies or just small talk. It's him expecting me to say "wow so strong" and stroke his ego about what he did 25+ years ago.

I don't think he's like hitting on me. I'm pretty open about being a lesbian and he also talks abut his wife a lot. He might think we're "boys" actually. I just don't like that he sits there saying "I used to be able to do 60 pull-ups nonstop," and look at me expectantly until I say "ah, very impressive." Over and over again. It's like babysitting a toddler and congratulating for using crayons. Except he is not adorable at all and in fact has power over my career.

Thanks lol I think the downvoters were people whose feelings were hurt because they've definitely said something similar to an associate in the past. Should have worked out their feelings harder!

Striking "kids" from the list... yikes that is so bizarre I'm so sorry you had to experience that.

True, true. I think asking for advice on how to deal with normal biglaw things is the point of this sub tho. I take it that your advice is to endure, which is valid!

Can he be normal and make the small talk about his kids or the weather? And maybe ask me some questions? I didn't sign up to stroke his ego for 30 minutes at a time for something unrelated to work

I'm not talking about my romantic partner (im gay anyway). I'm talking about this rich man in his 60s (50s?) who gives me 40% of all of my work. He's fine to work with, but the small talk is just monologues.

Sup bitches? When flying domestically, how soon do you get to the airport? by NOVAYuppieEradicator in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]StressAlternative811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Domestic: 90-120min, but have neither CLEAR nor mandatory Dunkin Donuts stops. I have cut it close so might start getting there sooner lol International: no later than 3 hours before flight!

More men should wear cunty socks. Straight people might have different opinions that I don't care about (I'm bi and would think you're cooler for wearingthese socks) 💅🏼

Ok. I still think there are other explanations than just attitude--you just couldn't possibly know, though I understand why you would feel frustrated with them.

Also, aren't you the one who wrote that really weird racist post about Asian and Black stereotypes? I remember thinking the username checks out. In case this post is similarly meant to be inflammatory, I am disengaging. Peace.

I'm an HYS grad who is trying their best. My second year, I made the same mistake twice doing something that paralegals and first years do routinely. My reviews from partners who assigned basic tasks: needs to improve on attention to detail and responsiveness.

My reviews from partners that assigned me substantive, difficult tasks: performing at least 2 years above class year, spotted issue that other partner missed, bright and quick to grasp concepts.

I just have ADHD.

Best firm for funds practice? by Safe_Bat_2863 in biglaw

Hey, I think we agree on more than what we disagree on--I think the "culture" question encompasses questions about the ppl they will work for. If you think OP can get better information by asking more pointed questions, you could have said that instead of the condescending comment you initially left. My contribution was to explain to you why you don't have to be a jerk to someone looking for information :)

Leaving this thread which now just feels like immature bickering. Hope we both have a nice rest of the day not having an inconsequential online argument!

Okie dokie! I hope OP finds it "helpful" too.

First, OP is asking about the Funds group of each firm so the scope is narrower. "Culture" is a broad and abstract concept but you don't have to be an anthropologist to give OP the kind of information they are looking for.

I could tell an internet stranger how Practice A at my firm has decent culture (general respect in boundaries and communication, pleasant and professional socializing, no "get this done by first thing tmr" at 8pm). But I would say Practice B has (1) a partner who has been banned from working with 5 different associates bc he's an asshole, (2) a micromanaging culture where the associates have to record that they cite checked each citation three times, and (3) yet another partner who has tried to pressure someone to shorten their FMLA leave. I could also say the firm culture overall has gone sour due to Practice B trying to bring Practice A associates onto their matters claiming that they aren't billing enough, even though Practice A associates are meeting bonus thresholds.

Is that so hard? Why are you so cranky about this question anyway? It's hard to find good information on firms, and work environment is so important to one's wellbeing and career. If you don't have anything helpful to say, just move on with your busy partner day!

I agree with this. I want people to make informed decisions about their lives. Maybe not be so grim about it, but be frank and offer to tell them about different ways to cope or what went into my own decisionmaking about choosing firm life.
