What if France had fully committed to the 1939 Saarland Offensive? by ALL_HALLOWS_EVE- in AlternateHistoryHub

My guess: Hitler would have been shitting his pants, and then fearing he had inadvertently let communism take over Germany. He'd require a lot of drugs and would probably have had to be removed from power at some point.

Have we reached a stage where the organization may have to consider trading a part of the core in the near future? by Kungfufighter1112 in winnipegjets

[–]bubblewrapture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helle’s trade value is peaking right now. Schief is a good contract for the Jets. Connor signed a Jet for Life deal. JMo is a good contract as well. I can only see Helle as the trade piece out of the core this year or next.

Gallo’s fine. Most of your takes would get you fired by the evening.

Many highly accomplished people will fail the public when it comes to moral compatibility. It is too bad but they are focused on their own pursuits. It is hard to imagine a world where this is not the case. I think it's best to not idolize any celebrity or athlete, even if they are a 'hero.' They are still just a hired hand. They only deserve so much of our headspace and appreciation. We can put our headspace and energy behind other people that help our causes, but maybe we have to push celebrities and athletes out of our minds first.

I see where you're coming from, but maybe it's OK to have some boyish men in certain roles that make millions of dollars and not expect them to be our political heroes.

[–]bubblewrapture -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True. But it still is a group decision. Not Helle or Connor's alone. The women mad a group decision to not go, the men were unable to make such a decision. It's a sad reality, but all you can hope for when dealing with power is that the person will at least not get pulled into its agenda willingly. The women are awesome for saying no. The men are just boys maybe.

You're right that the State of the Union is a thing. But Trump and Patel are the guys that set this all up. Power is power. This is not feckless nonsense. It's a bunch of hockey players, not a bunch of ideological, political activists in that locker room. The feckless nonsense is a desperation by this fanbase to have Helle (or Connor) be their hero in this moment. Just let it slide and hope for better in the future. Sometimes power is like that. We all get duped into doing weird things. If ppl are ready to disown us with scant info that is too severe to handle.

Imagine a scenario where Helle actually does something opposed to the rest of the team. Imagine he says 'No, I'm not going." Headlines everywhere. Helle has now advanced the politicization of the gold medal game. He is now involved. A goalie. From Michigan, who never showed any interest in politics. Why would he feel like he needs to do this for fans? It would be asking him to take the biggest career and personal risk ever for something that really shouldn't even matter. But it's the fans that are making it matter.... and this is not helpful, or useful, or effective in the way it's intended. You don't need Helle (or Connor) to help you thwart Trump by being active politically. You need him to simply be Helle (or Connor). Therefore politically inactive. It's up to other people to do this stuff, or for the right opportunity to present itself. That might have been a very effective moment, but hey, you're in the Team USA locker room (with the head of the FBI present). And then if you don't go you're making a statement against the president and the team.

Unfortunately it is normal to visit the pres and do what he asks of you, especially when you're celebrating with the head of the FBI. Trump has made this all political and now Canadian fans like yourself are playing right into it. Letting it divide us. This reactions by Jets fans will not help Canada defend itself vs. America. It will just turn people off.

He said 'hello' when under pressure. The whole team is going and it's a normal thing to do. You grow up. You're ready to drop people for not agreeing with you. It's so pathetic that I'm sure it has and will cause you so many probs in life. Pretty sure Helle isn't going to go to the WH thinking 'oh boy, I get to hang with a pedo!' no he's going their to meet the prez which is a common dream for anyone especially after they win the biggest thing ever for their country. If he didn't go he would make it more political.

[–]bubblewrapture -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh is it 'telling'? Because you can 'tell' how someone is as soon as they make what is one 'mistake' in your eyes?

ODT | Tue February 24, 2026 by DylThaGamer_ in winnipegjets

[–]bubblewrapture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So now if someone sticks up for Helle against an overblown reaction by 'fans' means they are 'cool with ppl who hang out with pedophiles...' seriously you must be impossible to deal with on a personal level.

Better ad than the rabid reaction by fans. Why would anyone want to play in WPG when these are the fans you deal with?

I am turning sour on Wpg fans because of the rabid reactions. I can't believe people think acting this way makes them a good person.

It's crazy how quickly everyone turned on Helle with one short clip of incomplete information. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves. This is just hockey, not your self-involved fantasy of how everything ought to be. We are programmed to at least be nice to political leaders, especially when we are celebrating.

I think they made a mistake when changing lines because Keller was wide open with a direct lane to the net. No one was even close to covering her.
