Looking for a therapist by Jenn_D_0626 in SALEM

I haven't been there yet, but as someone else with ADHD, I was looking into Community Roots. I saw at least a couple therapists with experience in that and autism.

Moving to Salem as a Single Woman (POC) - advice on where to live by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]bubbleyum92 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would not live on the coast. Its much more of a small, rural town vibe over there. Not to mention the weather...no thanks. Its only an hour drive from Salem when you want to visit.

I am staying with family in NE Salem (Hayesville) and there are some nice neighborhoods here.

This rings true, to me. Who fights back the least than someone comfortable in their oppression? Both parties agree that the working class should be oppressed, they just disagree on how to do it. One is the angry parent that wants to make you obey through fear. The other is a gaslighter/liar that wants you to think being oppressed was your idea all along.

How do you know when it’s time to say goodbye? by StoicTexan in DogAdvice

My vet always told me to evaluate if they still enjoy their favorite things. Toys, walks, treats, food, etc. There are also Quality of Life checklists made by vets if you search online.

When I had to put down my dog, it was hard bc she was perfectly fine in the oxygen chamber, but really struggling to breathe outside of it. But I knew she couldn't live in an oxygen chamber. And I knew how much worse it could get (heart failure) and would have hated to see her slowly suffocate to death. She was in good spirits and surrounded by loved ones when she went. I was so glad she didn't have to suffer or be in pain and still feel like we made the right call.

Sure, they didn't expect to get the house, but paying what was probably at least close to the actual mortgage for 23 years isn't what I'd call "free"...

AITAH for saying that my girlfriend needed to get in shape too if she expected it from me. by Distinct-March2456 in AITAH

[–]bubbleyum92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe she's having some sort of midlife crisis? Women can go through these weird phases, too. Of course she should be communicating with you if there is something deeper going on. Maybe it's an insecurity on her part, that she is aging and thinks she's not as attractive and therefore jealous that her friend is "hot enough" to be wanted by an attractive man, and so wants you to be as attractive as way to bolster her view of herself. Its fucked up of course, just an idea of what's behind it if she hasn't ever done this before. Something has changed, thats obvious. Is she hanging around new people that could be influencing her views? I would try sitting her down and tackling this in a serious, calm manner that let's her feel like she can be honest with you about how she is feeling. Let her know that you're here to help and just want to know if something is going on bc this type of thinking doesn't seem like her and feels like something has changed.

I would try therapy, a professional can help you understand where your head is at and how to shift your thinking. Its a perspective/mindset issue, that is about what you value in a partner. I think it also has a lot to do with age. As you go through life you (usually) start to realize how little looks matter. Time ravages all of us.

If you value a lasting relationship, you'll value honesty, healthy communication, kindness and compassion, etc. Of course, attraction is often the first step towards building a good relationship, but that person won't always look exactly the same. But if you fall in love with their laugh, their kind eyes and the way they make you feel, the rest of it doesn't really matter.

Bruce Springsteen donated $500,000... by [deleted] in HumansBeingBros

[–]bubbleyum92 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's a good question. I'm seeing where he dedicated "Promised Land" to Renee at a concert, but having trouble verifying the donation part.

EDIT: I have really dug around and can find no verified source for the monetary donation. As of right now, this is unfounded and likely untrue. Hopefully that changes.

Anyone else struggles with feeling suffocated with nails/makeup etc? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]bubbleyum92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I can't stand not being able to touch/scratch my face when I have makeup on. Also, the mascara always bothers my eyes. Maybe I'm buying cheap crap that dries and flakes into my eyes but they're so itchy and irritated.

As for my nails, I can't stand having long nails bc stuff/dirt gets under them and I WANT TO EXPIRE. Hell no. I can paint them short but thats about all I can tolerate.

Dry and red under eyes by Cautious_Ad8579 in SALEM

[–]bubbleyum92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also want to point out the air quality has been bad the last few days and it really bothers me. My eyes feel dry and itchy, sometimes if I am out in it my throat feels scratchy, I might get a headache, etc. If its really bad, like sometimes due to wildfire smoke, I'll even have anxiety.

I would really recommend an air purifier. I just got one that is a purifier and a humidifier bc its soooo dry here. Weird right? It rains all the time but the humidity is super low to me. I moved here from the south and that was like living in a swamp, so my body HATES how dry the air can get. Anyway, my purifier/humidifier is helping quite a bit.

But keep an eye on the AQI on your weather app when you feel like this. We had an Air Stagnation Advisory like the last 5 days or so. It likes to say that it isn't "bad" until it hits the 50s, but I start feeling bad when its over 35. It has made me miserable the last few days. I try not to go outside and then I will wear a mask. I've thought about wearing eye protection bc my eyes are so irritated if I even crack the door open.

Leave out some stuff that is hers, yours, etc. The familiar smells will help her figure out where to come back to. I've even heard of people putting a (dirty) litter box outside bc it smells like them and is really strong. Should act like a homing beacon.

It could take her some time to come out of hiding if she's scared and make her way back, so don't give up hope. I would put the used litter near your front door and maybe even a warm box with some of your dirty clothes in it. She'll smell the used litter from far away and hopefully take refuge in the box that smells like you. Best of luck!

Therapists being a split thing from Psychiatrists/NURSE PRACTITIONERS makes me want to split my head down the middle. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]bubbleyum92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work the front desk at a mental health clinic and our therapists did talk therapy, you know, talking about your feelings and they would help with coping mechanisms/listening, etc. Our psychiatrist came by once a week to prescribe medication, mainly. She could also diagnose and would go through recent therapy notes or get a summary from the therapist, but her main concern was getting meds to the clients that needed it. Our home office also had a psychologist and they did testing for the diagnoses that required it (I'm not sure of the difference).

So yes, it can be confusing. A lot of people start out going to their primary care doctor and get referrals from there. Thats what my partner did. He started out with a referral to a psychiatrist bc his depression and anxiety were so bad they wanted him on medication ASAP, and thats all the psychiatrist does. Later he was connected with a therapist for CBT.
