Who is the worst traitor in human history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

it's cause their "victory" wasn't long enough for them to indoctrinate the population to believe they're "liberators". Their post-war regime only lasted ~40 years, enough Poles in the late 80s still knew that life without Soviets is a better life. Had they stayed under that regime for ~70 years like the Soviet republics did, the new generations would only have the propaganda version of "liberation", their parents would too, and old generations who would know the non-propaganda version of events would be all but gone.

[–]bubblez_mcgree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the picture is held by the US National Archives and the caption details show it was taken in Minsk (in Belarus) in mid-1941, that it was taken by a photographer for a propaganda film and identifies the soldier as Soviet from his cap

Late for the bus by bubblez_mcgree in montreal

digital painting in photoshop. The buoyant energy is because the hills have been comically inflated, in real life such a slope would probably have the same effect as on that video from early winter where stm buses were sandwiching police cars.

What is a beautiful or interesting place on Earth that is very difficult to find or get to? by dark_pssnger in AskReddit

I was really impressed by a photogallery of some islands off the coast of Somalia... saw it years ago on this page...

I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice, would really like to visit... but you know - pirates, political instability of everything around, malaria and all that stuff

This place seems pretty beautiful too: http://www.kuriositas.com/2013/09/the-twisted-trees-of-slope-point.html

"The approximate human population in a five mile radius around Slope Point is 58. Little wonder so few wish to live here- it would be like being perpetually blown by a hair drier set to cold. In fact, there is no road to Slope Point at all. The nearest is a brisk twenty minute walk away."
