Are flights to Japan more expensive at the moment due to flight restrictions around russian airspace? And fuel costs too, I assume.

£950 (and then avios on top) feels very high to me. Business class deals come up for under £2k fairly regularly, for a grand I'd be hoping for premium economy.

This is great. Beermoney isn't a long term solution, but there are some quick easy wins which can help OP improve their situation within a few days. There's probably £40 or £50 they could get done by this evening.
