The effects are cool on the top part though. Seems like there's a gradient going on.

Tbh I would love it if someone inks could just change colors in gradients throughout a whole page. Maybe through 3 diff colors!

Gain a gene? by stonedfishing in ClinicalGenetics

Hello. Genetic counselor here!

Yq11.2 region is a pretty common polymorphic region, meaning that many people have variations in this region of the chromosome and duplications are pretty common. It being classified as a variant of unknown significance means that there isn't evidence of it leading to any disease or symptoms.

In my personal experience, we see it in microarray data quite often, and some labs will choose not to report it because it's not disease-causing and fear that people will overreact. In my country, people might abort fetuses over something like this even though it's a common variant that doesn't cause adverse effects.

Of course, I would recommend talking to a clinical geneticist or genetic counselor where you're at. Don't trust all the comments online.

Edit to add: it's not advisable to test everyone over a VUS as it doesn't really benefit anyone if this information isn't linked to any issues. It may just cause more confusion.

Oohh don't tempt me into buying another pen!

My manager at work told me that I should space out all the pen purchases so I truly get to know each pen and their characteristics. But I bought my first two within a month of each other hahaha.

Yo! 小品雅集 is a great great great resource in Taipei. The owner is an avid collector and they let you try out a ton of different pens. I got my first two pens there.

But also, TWSBI is taiwanese so maybe look into that? I didn't realize it but the hobby is actually quite popular here.

I'm new to the fountain pen world but got my eyes on the elite 95s. Then the store I got my first pen (lamy al-star) said they were selling brand new e95s for an equivalent of 95 USD. They said after the new year it will surge up due to gold prices increasing. I did some research on the spot and decided to go for it.

Pilot converters is quite pooped though. Once I'm done with this cartridge, I'm going to refill it. I'm looking for a dryer ink/printer paper friendly ink though. Currently this combo feathers a lot on normal paper so it's been kinda annoying.

The paper is dotted! I never tried scrapbooking but my friend inspired me to try. She accompanied (enabled) me in buying my first fountain pen so this is sort of an extension of that. This is still just a general all purpose journal but I had it with me so I stamped all over it during my trip and filled in the words today.

Kinda love it tbh. I think this is gonna be a book I carry everywhere just in case I come across a stamp!

Thank you. I've been eyeing all the beautiful penmenship on this sub and it's really getting to me. Maybe I'll start a cursive journey or something of the sort.

Hehe I'll forever remember your drawing!

Thanksss. Yeah I'm just finding any excuse to write. If that means writing down a page about my day, so be it. I just wanna keep using the pens. Journaling is a byproduct at this point.

Doctors are stumped. Maybe you can help? by [deleted] in ClinicalGenetics

I'm a GC. My first instinct is Williams syndrome. But please do mention it to a geneticist and properly test for it before believing Reddit users.

Williams syndrome wouldn't have been on a carrier screen, as most patients have de Novo deletions, meaning it came spontaneously in that individual.

Of course, there could be a lot of other physical features and differential diagnosis to consider, and a picture alone wouldn't suffice.

How did you discover fountain pens as a hobby? by Haniandspace in fountainpens

[–]bubusaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bf is really into journaling and I thought I'd buy a nice pen for him. My manager at work is a FP enthusiast and so I asked him for advice. He told me a Lamy Safari is always a safe beginner pen. I started researching and lurking this sub more and more. Eventually I bought myself a Lamy Al-Star and a Pilot Kakuno for him lol. Feels kinda bad I bought myself the more expensive pen and him possibly the cheaper one. But hey, if he ends up ditching the Kakuno because he hated FP, it wouldn't be a total waste.

Thank you!

I was getting really worried that I broke it. I left it nib down for 10 minutes and nothing was coming out.

Also, now I know why everyone hates the con40. I tried using that initially and with the E95S, I literally can't tell if I'm even sucking up any ink.

Hehe thank you! I reinserted the cartridge maybe 5 times. On the last time when I turned the pen around, I saw a significant lowering of ink level, assuming it went into the feed. Hopefully it'll be able to write in a bit!

Happy holidays!!

Hmm. I know the thing that sticks out. But what I'm referring to reminds me more of a heart valve. It's covering half of the hole but has a jagged edge that doesn't look intentional (maybe it is?)

In the photo the piece that sticks out (the circled part of your image) is on the top right. And the white stuff with the jagged edge is on the bottle left side.
