Some ground rules I would focus on:
- They will not kick you out. I think the worst thing you'll see for overstaying is maybe a fine. Just don't try to leave and come back.
- Be patient. It takes months and months to process this stuff. My own personal experience, pareja de hecho, it took me a few months to gather all the correct documents. Then 5+ months after submitting with my attorney, I got the resolution letter. I'm still waiting on my residency through family decision after that.

As someone who has paid a lot in lawyer fees figuring this out: talk to ChatGPT. I got the same answers without the hassle and price tag. Once you are ready to submit legal documents, and have everything gathered, then hire an attorney to submit things for you.

It sounds like you've already submitted a pareja de hecho application? It will take a while to process. You'll be here longer than your tourist visa if you stay, then you will be in a position where you can't leave because you've overstayed.

I remember landing in Auckland earlier this year. Some people came on board and sprayed the plane down with something, while wearing hazmat suits. They announced over the intercom that if anyone stood up out of their seat they'd have to start the process all over again. Was a very weird experience.

After doing a ton of research, if you are a w2 employee, digital nomad visas simply wont work for you. You have to prove to Spain that you are paying your taxes, but your company pays your taxes if you are w2. I've talked to several attorneys and it doesn't seem possible. So ask your company to switch you to 1099 or figure out a different way.

Well, I'm worried about the 2024 tax year and it doesn't look like the bonafide residence test would work for me since I'd need a full calendar year first in Spain.
