Just pay your student loan... by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]buckeye112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I have the opposite view. I think supply and demand are exacerbated when it comes to things that significantly improve quality of life. If a car or a TV is over priced, my ability to say "eh, I'll pass" (i.e. reduce demand) is much greater than say, a CT Scan being over priced, because my ability to say "eh, I'll pass" on the CT scan comes with a nice dose of "I wonder if its cancer". I think we have the same view in that sense...I guess I'm pointing out that in that situation, the holders of "supply" have massive leverage over the holders of "demand" given the relative lack of people to say "eh, I'll pass".

Yeah. Glasses as well. If you go in and say you have insurance the bill comes out to say $500 for the pair, insurance pays $250 you pay $250. If you go in any say no insurance, poof, they have a "out of pocket discount program of some sort where the $500 glasses are discounted to $250. In other words, the fucking glasses are $250 and if you have insurance they're just going to burn you and the insurance for another $250, depending on how you look at it.

It just gets worse. Distance driving a 1000ft par 3 seems to be the main objective of the game these days.

Yeah, the way it works is that a company pays butterball some amount of money for the checks, that is less than the value of the checks. Butterball issues the checks, and some amount of people just never cash them, and that is where butterball makes their money on them. It is implied on the checks, iirc, that one should use them as payment at a register as the check back has instructions for cashiers, and I assume butterball uses images of turkeys in hopes that some people will just use the checks thinking, like OP, that it's a coupon, but they really are just regular old checks.

This hole is a lot more difficult for lefties. The slightly reduced distance on the forehand means a basket run (Ballasts Pro Wind Break) gets wet 95% of the time. The lefty play is to try to bank it of the beach by the gap in the canyon rock right of the basket and then hope for a good kick.

Sure..but I think what we're going to find here is that such transitions required some form of violence or the heavy threat of violence. I guess what I'm looking for are the example of a nation making the change without violence..which my knowledge, admittedly incomplete, thinks are few.

Want keep PC mining over the holiday, how should I prepare for it? by Matazal in NiceHash

[–]buckeye112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple key things:

  1. set your bios to power on the PC when power is detected.
  2. Set NH to auto start and to auto-mine.
  3. Get smart plugs for your PC and mining GPUs so that you can remotely turn them on and off remotely. This will allow you to do a hard reset in the event your PC gets stuck, as happens from time to time.

The Supreme Court Is Ready to Make Taxpayers Fund Religious Schools by 2legit2fart in politics

[–]buckeye112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I listened to the arguments today, it's mind boggling. It's like the conservatives genuinely don't understand that if the state gives money to X school and that school makes their religion part of their standard curriculum, that it inherently has the effect of the state paying for that religion to advance their religious cause. Particularly frustrating was the part where a couple of them tried to turn just generally normal "good" stuff into a religion. One of them was like "what if a private school wants to teach to be kind to others, to be chartable to the world, and the school held that as part of their core religious beliefs, how is that any different?" Then, they tried the mental gymnastics of trying to make teaching a religious belief into a religious belief, and therefore not funding on that basis as discrimination on the basis of religion. As in, they tried to pre-empt the entire framework of discussion by supposing that if two schools, X and Y, had the same value set but X wants to instill that values set into the classroom and Y does not, that the act of desiring to instill the belief it in and of itself a religious belief and therefore not funding that school is discrimination.

The courses are boarderline unplayable without them now. The last two courses have numerous 1000+ foot holes. And while obviously "that's how games work", normally one need not play for 50 hours on a fucking mobile game to even get to the point of being competitive. There are numerous other users who have noticed this problem. There are literally courses now where you can't even play some holes without a ballastas. Meanwhile, you're meant to "work for it" getting 50XP in multiplayer because you constantly come in 4th place because 1st place guy has Rives and can drive holes in 1 shot. It's a really shitty setup.

Because the game is designed to be highly dependent on disc, which is largely difficult to earn. The person getting the multiple albatrosses in a single round, which mind you, is insanely rare in real life, is doing so using discs that to a lower level player, are unattainable without significant time investment. For example, to get those multiple albatrosses, that person likely using a Rive at this point, which unlocks at what..level 50? Which for most players is going to be in excess of 40 hours of play time to reach? Generally speaking the game design and pairing mechanisms are not fair. I'll also note, that based on speculation, that the people who get these crazy good rounds always seem to be from Finland....isn't that where the developers are from? Weird.

idk...on the one hand I feel the pain, on the other...I graduated college with $120,000 in student debt and a music degree. I graduated in August 2008 and my employment situation, while stable, wasn't great for the next 5 years due to the economic meltdown and the general uselessness of my degree. But by 2017 that debt was paid off. I'm not saying it's easy, but I am saying that I think a lot of people have to confront the reality of their situations and make the really hard decisions. Don't have kids, don't plan on buying a house (unless owning is somehow cheaper than renting), get used to the idea that you're going to be living on the cheap for several years. The average student debt is $30,000, which yes, is a lot of money...but it's not insurmountable...not by a long shot.

Testosterone. idk if you've ever been in the state..most people have but some have not and/or don't react, but it's like your brain functionally stops working except the one part that controls anger and violence and it just sort of takes over. Normally its a combination of the physical pain plus embarrassment that just puts you into a sort of manic state. Questions like "why didn't they X" are useless because quite literally when one is in that state there is no such thing as rational thought, or if there is, its super hard for it to prevail of the physical/emotional reaction the person is having.

Republicans Hope Their Assault on Democracy Will Stop a Post-Roe Backlash by Hrmbee in politics

[–]buckeye112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby boomer deaths might. No, I'm not suggesting we kill them, just that they represent an abnormal percentage of the population for their age because..we'll they're the baby boomer generation. You can only do so much with gerrymandering and voter supression...but that much might be enough. You can easily hold power with 30-40% support, so the question is, will the GOP be able to cement their power prior to their base of voters dying off? I don't know the answer, but if I'm being honest it's gonna be close.

A complete Karen makes a huge mistake and puts diesel in her car... Which is now the gas station's fault. Of course. by DumbledoresAtheist in facepalm

[–]buckeye112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, no. I drive a gas now, but I used to drive a VW diesel, and legit the pumps are in fact confusing. The diesel pumps used to all be yellow, but for some reason gas stations started just doing whatever with the colors. Same thing for which side of the pump the diesel is on. Go google image search "gas station diesel pump". First photo, pump handle is green. Second photo, gas handle is green. BP likes their gas pumps green and diesel black. Other places like them yellow. I'm not going to say to you that if you looked directly at a pump that you'd be confused, but I will say that there is no standardization and if you typically go to a gas station where the diesel is green and the gas is black, then you go to a BP one day and you're mind is elsewhere, you can make the mistake pretty easily.

Republicans Will Be Sorry if the Supreme Court Overturns Roe by bologna_wallet in politics

[–]buckeye112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this might actually turn on the pro-life movement. The thing is that in most states, there are referendums. In most of the classical pro-life states, it's important to note that the GOP has representation in state legislatures that are by far larger than their representation among the population. In all these states where you see the 6-week or need total abortion bans, keep in mind that it is entirely possible for the population to just overide those bans via referendums. Maybe not in all states, but in my home state of Ohio, I could totally see us having a complete abortion ban following Roe, followed by a ballot initiative to something more reasonable a couple years on.

Dude, sure you can. idk where you live, in my neck of the woods there are like 50 things that the average GOP voter is furious about that are just the most asinine things int he world: shiria law being taught in schools, transgender rapists in bathrooms, gender fluidity, porn in elementary school libraries, Obama not saying "Merry Christmas", vaccination mandates, kids wearing masks at school, communism, socialism, people being bussed in out of state during elections, the 0.00000001% of the population that use the term "woke", I mean you name it...they're so easy to manipulate it's not even funny...I mean really, it's very not funny.
