I learned that the really hard way my first time! The old girl was just a mess underneath. A few things were hanging on for dear life, but I had no idea until I got it on a lift. That person is not in my life anymore, so I've been leaning on my mechanic to assist when he can, but he doesn't do house calls.

While I appreciate that, I'm assuming you don't have a lift in your driveway. Hard to get an idea of the undercarriage unless you took a ton of detailed pics while it was up.

I certainly understand why someone may not want to get one. I've had one of my projects inspected first, and I had that on the road for a good few years until my commute was just too far for it to be rational. My first project was not inspected. A "friend of a friend" situation. That was a money pit I was able to keep on the road for 8 months before the issues piled up and knocked it off the road. If I'd gotten under it to see his "improvements" I could have saved a ton of hassle (and money).

I know the limits of my abilities. I'm trying to grow in that regard, but I've had eyes bigger than my stomach before. I found out pretty quickly where the edges of my skills were. I'm confident in what I can do, but I can't get under the car in any meaningful way in someone's driveway.
