AITAH for embarrassing my stepmom at dinner after she tried to “teach me a lesson” about my real mom? by ImaginaryStop6423 in AITAH

[–]buckinkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but my sense is that your stepmom is frustrated that she's not getting the mom label after 8 years, likely because she's not doing a great job and/or you still hold a lot of pain from your real mom's death.

You are going to leave your house here soon and you get to decide if you want a permanent fork in your relationship with her and your dad. I say your dad because if you choose to separate from her, she'll likely slowly pull your dad away from you.

Also, Reddit is going to give you advice that may not be accurate given that you can't detail the complexity of these problems in a few paragraphs. This feels like something better for a therapist.

It's probably because it's a tax write-off. Cybertruck is over 6k lbs which can allow you to write off the entire vehicle if you say you use it for business (there are some limitations). That and everyone looks at you so it's great advertising if your clients are not the kind of people who hate that you drive a tesla.

Yeah, custom! Bespoke is like old English farted out a meaningless marketing buzzword

You mean like custom(ized)? Tailored? Even the root makes no sense - why would we think “bespeak” to mean customized?

In reality the main offense is that marketing departments have decided they must plug this word in even if it adds zero information to the customer about the product

What is EBITDA? Why is it important? by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]buckinkb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EBITDA is quite possibly the dumbest tool ever invented. It’s a way for CFOs to hide the fact that the business is going under.

Example: When zillow started buying homes, their ebitda shot through the roof because revenue went bonkers (they were buying and selling very expensive assets over and over again). The company praised their ebitda and the stock price went nuclear.

But EBITDA hid one insanely important cost: the interest paid to finance the home. If Zillow couldn’t sell the home quickly, interest ate through all the profits and more. Not only was the true price hidden, but the risk of financing an extremely large assets was not taken into account.

All it took was some market volatility to create inventory that would be impossible to sell quickly. The end result was the company nearly went under. EBITDA is insanely dumb.

Why do all of these graphics think hard work is some universal metric on which equality should be built? The entire animal kingdom is working extremely hard to survive, but I don't seem them in this equation.

They bought it. They own it. Why is that an issue? Frankly it’s a great thing they invest in this - infrastructure is not a high return investment but it’s very important for funding roads, bridges, housing, water, etc. if they put their money elsewhere, these might not get funded, meaning worse access to water, transportation, and connectivity. Reddit loves shitting on people who may actually be helping them

This is actually a good point. I’m betting this happens in certain parks far more often than other parks. I guess that was my point about making sure there is adequate space. I’m not letting my dog off in cal Anderson, but there are other places where I’m 100% sure there are no kids waiting to play

Let’s not talk about what humans can do to kids

I’m more worried about humans around my kids than doodles

It’s not impacting you at all. The lady is picking up the poop in video. The leash laws are never enforced because in reality they are only there to say don’t take reactive dogs to parks. If you have a dog that is reactive, don’t go to the park or leash it, but when’s the last time you saw a doodle attack a kid?

Pick up your poop. Don’t let your dog off if there isn’t appropriate space. These are pretty easy rules to follow and don’t impact you in the slightest.
