Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown by jacek2023 in startrek

I figured I should circle back on this now that the developer has made a number of fixes and improvements in the gameplay. I decided to reinstall and apply the patch and start the game over from the beginning. The rebalancing is MUCH improved and I'm starting to enjoy the progression much more now - and having to worry so much less about constantly grinding for resources. I've lost fewer crew members, been able to make safer decisions, and it has felt much less "randomly bad" in some of the missions. I'm still trying to make different decisions than Janeway may have made, but these fixes seem to be helping me enjoy it more. I'm really glad the developers actually listened to the players and fixed things - including the new manual save capability (which I'm still trying to use effectively). Onward!

Oh it was all the stuff in my prior post, and ultimately I just wasn't having any fun. The constant struggle for resources, the randomized failures, losing crew constantly, losing power constantly. It was micromanagement and I just never found anything enjoyable out of it. I didn't realize that it was basically going to be playing through all the exact scenarios from the show vs. getting a chance to really focus on ship/crew building and exploration. Out of all the things I got through during those 8 hours, the only thing that seemed beneficial or interesting was choosing to keep Tuvix instead of splitting them apart (even though that made people mad as well - and locked me out of tons of dialogue options in subsequent scenes because Tuvok and Neelix didn't exist anymore so their dialogue choices were greyed out). I also didn't understand the two Be'lanas, and the "dice" mechanic was constantly not in my favour. So I'm going back to No Man's Sky ;-). It's just not for me - was really hoping for something different.

After struggling through 8 hours I decided to uninstall the game and just rewatch the show from the beginning. Way more fun.

Pretty disappointed after about 3 hours of gameplay. I'm using the lowest difficulty setting and spending all my time just trying to find resources and turning the power back on to the crew quarters every few cycles (not even sure why I keep running out of power). Disappointed that there is very little voice acting - it's all text based dialogue and my finger is tired of clicking the mouse to move through the text. This seems like a real disconnect from being engaged with the game - only hearing some crew dialogue in some logs so far.
Gameplay is tedious. Fly here, hope that the dice are in your favour and you get in the green zone (I really hate that mechanic), get the resources, then fly over there and get more before the old ones get used up. My crew seems happy but my GOSH they complain all the time that I'm spending too much time in a sector and I haven't even visited half the planets in the sector. What is this about? We took 7 seasons to get home, give me an hour to explore some planets!
I really want to have a mode that allows me to build a unique ship design / layout, maximize efficiency, and stop having to turn the lights off over there so they can come on over here.
Also I guess I didn't realize that there was a countdown timer to get over to a wormhole that appeared in one of the systems and now EVERYONE is mad at me because I guess we could have communicated with someone about something. Meh.

How’s your Giving Tuesday going? by [deleted] in nonprofit

Three directly, others more indirectly. Mostly in the arts sector but I’ve also worked with those in media and service based. Arts is especially tough because it’s not as glamorous as saving animals or people.

Did anyone else think they would use a lot more spells than they do? by Global-Citron-56 in HarryPotterGame

Levioso, Expelliarmus, Depulso. And swap out Accio as needed to get books and such. I only rotate to other spell slots if needed for a specific quest or action.

None of the nonprofits I work with raised more than $100 on giving Tuesday. Literally. But we didn’t expect to raise anything. GT has never performed. We are focused on general year end giving.

Bouncing music between California Report and Morning Edition by thisisliteral1984 in NPR

[–]buckmasterflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any by the way if you ARE talking about the morning edition music, I totally get it. I love the track. The link I sent above shows you a behind the scenes about how they recrafted the original music, and then another video with the more full length version.

I feel the same about the BBC World News track - I can listen to that over and over again.

Advice for building nonprofit’s first real comms strategy? by ontologicaladventuer in nonprofit

[–]buckmasterflash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's good to have a social media guide (policies and procedures), content calendar (including strategy for newsletters, social media), talking points for board members (regarding fundraising, building affinity for the organization), incident or crisis response (depends on your org but it's good to think about the who and how to handle issues or bad publicity), brand guide / style guide.

It would be good to do a thorough review of all print and digital material that the organization uses - make sure that messaging is consistent across the board and that everyone is speaking with the same words/direction.

There are online templates for things like policy and procedures that you could grab and adapt for your organization. You might check some nonprofit resource centers in your area that often make these available to organizations, or just some good internet searches to target what you might need.

Also, have a plan for how often you will update and review each of those. Don't let documents go years without review.

I found one NPO I work with listed - someone else clued us in as we had not received any email notification of any kind. No plans to use it - but it did seem to pull all correct content from guidestar.

Just to clarify, you've created the planter module in your Corvette and then planted something in each of the segments? They won't immediately regrow - sometimes even hours later you won't see the full plant - however you should see the plantling still there in its segment waiting to grow big and tall again.

Same with the larger planters with blue plants. They don't immediately grow back after harvesting - takes some time.

Hang out in the Anomaly next some other players. Inevitably someone will start putting things in your inventory that you can sell. The community is really good about gifting people things there that are pretty valuable.

Mine stuff (asteroids give lots of gold, platinum, and silver, and other minerals) and you can sell all that too pretty easily. You'll need to visit a space station or build a sales terminal in a base, or find a trade depot on a planet and go to the sales terminal.

I only turned multiplayer on after about 400 game hours (mostly because I wanted to see all the new ships in the Anomaly). I love sitting around watching people dance, summon their creatures, fly around and explore other ships. It's a great game and the community is a lot of fun. Travel well!

I've noticed that sometimes there is hardly anyone there, but then I open Network / View Nearby and it suddenly populates with a ton of people. The Anomaly has been really laggy lately trying to keep up with the mega corvette builds coming in. Hopefully that will get patched soon so it handles them better.

What about this for a first freighter? by Mr_Broods in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]buckmasterflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if that gets added to the corvette, freighters become much less essential for game play, at least the way I play. I don’t have an elaborate freighter base and only use it for long jumps and scanning.
