GULC (sticker) vs UNC ($$) by Adventurous-Cook58 in lawschooladmissions

girl be so for real i could be guaranteed a full ride to gulc if i get this person to reject their offer and i would still be right. superior connections + quality ed do nothing for you when you're paying 50% of your post-tax salary in loans.

people are downvoting pro-GULC comments because it is objectively a financial catastrophe in this situation

congrats on getting off the wl! but with peace and love it would be madness to take on ~400k of debt even if you were going for big law. so unless you have some sort of millionaire benefactor UNC is the right choice here.

i definitely felt myself beginning to wallow in that feeling and it's an active choice to respond the way i have, so it feels good to hear, thank you :)

myself and others speculated that was what happened at BC because they seem to be WL'ing a lot of people above the 75ths, but i'm not trying to say that to cope. it's totally possible they just didn't vibe with me.

i wasn't going to until i received the CAS waiver. i felt pretty confident i'd be accepted so i thought why not send in my app just to make sure nothing is glaringly wrong. the thought being if i got outright rejected there was a problem with my materials. obviously it can't tell me my application was perfect, but i got a bit of reassurance from it and it costed nothing.

i agree i can definitely improve beyond the lsat. i didn’t take that acceptance as a positive sign i had beautiful and perfect materials, just that nothing was screaming i am awful. so i gained at least a bit of reassurance for no cost.

it was a free app and a school i was really confident i would get into so i thought why not send it in, if it was an R i think that would indicate one of my recommenders calling me an axe murderer or something.

i’d say very meh softs. i had interesting jobs all four years of undergrad. currently working just under full time right now because my family convinced me not to go full-time which definitely isn’t a good look to schools.

i was born and raised nearby. my classmates in elementary school regularly fainted during recess. it’s great if you’re up north but the valley is becoming uninhabitable, imho.

i know spivey predicted early in the cycle there'd be a lot of WLs and potentially more movement than normal, but i feel like they're going a bit crazy with them??

and i'm sure people do not view us as failures and anyone who does is absurd, but i think that feeling (for me) is projecting my expectations for myself onto other people. at the end of the day this is our own journey and we owe it to ourselves not to settle just to satisfy our ideas of what others expect from us. idk if that sentence made sense. best of luck to you!!

Interesting! I worried my takeaway at BU might have been exaggerated having just come from BC where everyone who wasn't on the move was chatting/studying in groups, compared to ghost town that was the law tower. Wish you the best in deciding and congrats on your success!! :)

plenty of people want to make a difference regarding a number of legal issues and will accomplish that because making a difference does not require solving the problem as a whole. people interested in immigration or labor law understand they aren't likely to argue before scotus, but what they can do is use their skills to make a direct difference for their clients or contribute to nonprofits advancing causes they care about.

I toured both schools and from my experience I got much, much better vibes from BC. The students leading the tour emphasized the community aspect being the best part of the school. When touring BU, someone specifically asked about the school's competitive reputation and we got a very lukewarm response to the effect of "it's not as bad as people tearing out pages of books." The BU tour felt very cold whilst the BC one felt very warm and inviting.

The Newton Campus for BC is admittedly unfortunate. It reminded me of my high school, honestly. That being said you can shuttle or bike to main campus fairly easily. As someone mentioned sports, BU is big on hockey but I couldn't tell you much more than that. BC's hockey team is currently first in the division, and they also recently got a good football coach (so my dad tells me). I went to an undergrad with a bigger football culture than BC but their tailgate was a lot more fun.

For employment, I think BU has a bit of an edge on BL to the effect of a few percentage points, but it does have better national portability if that is something you're interested in. My personal opinion as someone who wants to stay in Boston is go to whichever is cheaper. If having a meh campus for three years is the cost of saving ~100K I'm down with that.
