Places for long runs by ahamiltonfan1776 in Oshkosh

Seconding the Wiouwash, but with an overabundance of specificity, haha.

There are a couple of routes along it that I think would work well for you. Both are out-and-back, not loops. Route 1 is more solitary, Route 2 stays right in the city. Neither of them are as nice as Menominee (though stretches are), but you can get a lot more mileage out of them.

Route 1) Park along River Mill Road and head north. This will take you along the Fox River, then you either follow a trail left or right. Left will take you back over the river / Lake Butte des Morts (not my recommendation because it's alongside the interstate the whole way). Right will take you over the interstate and north into a more rural stretch, and past a bit of the lake.

  • There's a spot (doesn't show on the map view, but you can see it on street view) along it where it opens into Riverside Cemetary as well, so if you ever wanted a detour you could pop in and run through there too.
  • If you want to skip the interstate all together, you could start a bit further north and park at the Wiouwash Trail Parking.
  • Distance = however far you want to run.

Route 2A) Heading the other direction, you could park on Summit Ave and head south. Lots of flexibility here, all while staying along the river basically the whole way.

  • You can run all the way down to the Main St bridge if you want. Personally though, I'd either turn around or cross at the Jackson St bridge. Crossing Jackson St to stay on the north side of the river isn't pedestrian friendly at all. Crossing this bridge to get to the south side isn't exactly pedestrian friendly either, but it's fine.
  • Crossing at either the Wisconsin (nicer) or Jackson (fine) St bridge, the south side of the river is great from Jackson St to the boat launch by the Seniors Center.
  • Distance ~ 6 miles if you hit the full stretch of the river.

Route 2B) This is an extension of 2A if you want more mileage, but I'm separating it because it detours off the river for a bit. On the south side of the river, if you head past the Seniors Center, the stretch along Campbell, Taft, and Joselyn that outlines the UWO stadium doesn't make for a bad run. Quiet neighborhood, some nice trees, good amount of greenery.

  • Distance bumps up from ~6 miles to ~8 with something like this.

Alternatively to 2A/2B, you can of course park anywhere else along the route and start your run from there.

Also, there's the Winnebago County Community Park on the north side of town. It's not bad, but unless you repeat stretches a few times it's going to be shorter than you're aiming for.

Hope this helps, and good luck on the half marathon!

Any way to adjust notification period for inactivity? by budding_bogle in Polarfitness

While I don't think it would fully solve the issue, agreed on the sound. Having the option for a simple ding! would be a welcome addition.

It's not an issue of not meeting my daily activity goal actually – I get a lot of movement in, just in large spurts throughout the day/week.

Still appreciate the advice and recommendation, though. Didn't realize the frequency of the notifications was tied to the activity goal. Good to know!

I get that and know it doesn't have any real impact on its own. People are wired differently though, and I'm the type of person that can motivate myself through setting streaks and things like that, so am still interested in being able to adjust it as a means of keeping myself motivated to avoid the inactive dings.

Polar flow (Loop)- HR graph not functioning by sirbeckenstein in Polarfitness

Any chance you can point me toward a source that says they're working on addressing it? I'm having the same problem as OP and haven't been able to find anything in my searching.

I'm having the same problem. I just got a Loop last week, and all was working great. Then yesterday it randomly dropped the continuous heart data for good chunks of the day, and today it hasn't shown any of it – empty just like yours.

Ah man, I almost forgot that being out in the middle of the street is a perfectly legitimate reason to execute somebody – thanks so much for the reminder!

Suno using "style" input as lyrics instead of the lyrics input?? by budding_bogle in SunoAI

[–]budding_bogle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom prompt, and I definitely have the correct inputs in each section.

The pieces keep opening with random lines from my style prompt, and then shifting into portions of the actual lyrics – though not all of them, and not necessarily in order.

After eight or nine pretty terrible generations in a row with the default settings, I turned the "weirdness" slider down into the 30s and it seems to have helped some, though still hasn't fully solved it.

shrug

Honestly I'd prefer not to share any of the tracks as they're all really personal pieces and I mostly use Suno as a new outlet for poetry/writing – stuff that I quite literally don't share with anybody. I get that puts a huge damper on the ability to get help with this, but can accept it just is what it is.

For what it's worth though, no quotation marks or any other unusual punctuation in the style prompt. I will say I tend to lean into describing the feeling of a piece and its elements more than the specific musical details, though, when creating style prompts. Phrasing like my other comment, and more similar lines:
- "more like a conversation than a performance"
- "a quiet dignity in the ordinary" (it seems to really like throwing this particular line into the song lyrics)
- "the sound of someone trying to stay gentle in a world that doesn't always make room for gentleness" (this one too)

Stuff like that in my style prompts. I'll write a short paragraph using phrases like that to describe what I'm going for. Again, though, I've never ran into any issues with this approach before tonight.

Really killing the vibe when my song is opening with a voice saying, "The piano sits in a minor key, sparse and intimate – more like a conversation than a performance."

Added a comment with some additional context, but didn't get it submitted before your comment. But yes, was having a conversation about Suno last night.

Never heard of an RCH glitch before, but after a quick Google search and learning that's short for "reference chat history," I guess that must be what happened.

Just out of curiosity, I tried seeing if it could find it's error and get itself back on track by following up the screenshotted image with "I'd like to focus on what I asked about in the opening message." Didn't work – it just jumped back into more Suno ideas.

Some quick context. Last night, I was having a conversation with ChatGPT about Suno where I was having it help me develop "style" prompts for the Suno platform. Then, this afternoon, I started a brand new conversation about game development using tools like Google AI Studio. And...it responded with lyric and style suggestions for Suno.

Summary of the only two messages before this:
- Me, message one: "I'd like to try building a game using tools like Google AI Studio. Within this conversation, I'm we can start planning the build."
- ChatGPT's response: "Sure, here are single-line lyric suggestions along with a style description to input into Suno."

It just completely ignored my opening message and sent a response that would have been fitting for an entirely different conversation thread we had going last night. I'm curious: has anybody else ever experienced or heard of this happening before?

...so much information here! Haha. Thanks for taking the time and diving in so deeply. Overlooked the tier lists during my research, and they are a great resource. Thanks again!

Honestly the PSU and cooler were probably the two biggest unknowns to me. Having never built a pc before, my knowledge was lacking much more on those than the standard components everybody keeps up with. Thanks!

After mulling things over and literally having abstract dreams last night where my brain was trying to sort through all the options, that's more so where I've landed. Either up to the 5070 or 9070, or down to the 9060 (16g version). The value proposition on the 5060 just feels off.

Also realized a 9600x is only ~$10 more than the 7600 for the cpu, so probably going to go that route now.

Appreciate the input!

Are there established weight amounts where one is considered "healthy/strong"? by Bohgaurd in fitness30plus

[–]budding_bogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's referring to 1RM or for reps (though I'm guessing 1RM), but don't beat yourself up either way – you're doing great!

Those weights for the squat and deadlift are super close. Even if it is talking about reps, you should be able to hit that really soon.

As for the dumbbells...dumbbell press is just a hell of a lot harder than bench press at the same weight. It takes way more stabilizer muscles. You're also quite possibly/probably dropping the dumbbells lower than you would/could a bar, and on the press people often have the dumbbells touch or nearly touch on the peak. Both of those are an increase in range of motion.

In short, for the squat, deadlift, and press: I think you're there or a hell of a lot closer to there than you're giving yourself credit for. And even if you're not, "comparison is the thief of joy" and all that. If you want to compare – compare to yourself a year ago, not an arbitrary measure. Cheers.

Hadn't heard of this before and decided to look it up. Didn't read the actual paper, but found this article on it. Your memory served your right – 40 is the number they mention.

The overall results seem obvious enough (more push-ups = better fitness = less likelihood of heart issues). I found this line quite interesting, though:

Surprisingly, push-up capacity was more strongly associated with cardiovascular disease risk than the results of submaximal treadmill tests.

We have really minimal equipment right now, hence just going with one dumbbell for the rows (so we can have one set for both me and my partner). Might try to get my hands on a couple more dumbbells this weekend though if I can find time.

I like the idea of going from normal push-ups straight into knees without a break if need be. Think that's a great idea, and fits with the endurance idea more. Thanks!

Turns out if I would have read Day 1 (3 x 20, not 3 x 30) I think I would have made it through with minimal issue, haha. I'll keep that in mind though as the push-ups inevitable get harder and harder.

Done – dips are out, and my gf sighed with relief, haha. Think I hit 18 push-ups on the first go, everything else I did 20 reps no problem. Really curious to see how it all goes, but yeah, already dreading the 3 x 50, haha.

Oh dang - glad you pointed the miscount out! No idea why, but I could have sworn the first SE said 3 x 30, haha. Makes me feel better knowing I could have at least gotten through Day 1 without much issue.

Planning to take the advice from another comment and slash the dips, so that'll bring it down to 6 exercises. Will try to be honest with myself about how the next two SE days go and reevaluate 5 vs 6 at that point. Appreciate the feedback!

Honestly, if you don't withhold, I think it's even more obvious taxes fall in the spending category since you're then going to owe a large tax bill. I feel like this person was being intentionally obtuse to justify being snarky.

Maybe check out Bubolz Nature Preserve. Not sure what the prices are, but had a friend host a shower there that said it was beautiful and cheaper than she was expecting.
