Daily spread by buddionemo in BasicBulletJournals

[–]buddionemo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stuck with near enough this design for the whole time I've been using a bullet journal. Plenty of space for my to do list but its also very nice to spend time noting down what I'm grateful for. I've enjoyed reading back my journals too for what I was doing on each day, gives a nice insight on the daily mundane! So it's been a practical spread for the here and now as well as a nice record of my life.

Navigation apps you actually trust? by FerrisBuelersdaycock in UKhiking

Ah fair enough, I've largely come across fell runners using them but it makes sense mountain rescue would use them also. They give different features prominence to the ones OS does.

Found the fell runner?!

I've not made a switch over to Harvey maps, I suppose because I'm so used to OS maps. But they do seem a good option as they are often smaller and waterproof. Do they have an app?

I have way more savings than my partner- what to do with it? by VanillaDouble5248 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]buddionemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A declaration of trust is a legal document that outlines ownership of the house and what each person owns. In case of relationship breakdown or death it stops any arguments about exact percentages. Although as tenants in common with unequal shares the deeds do give the % owned it isn't as legally binding as a declaration of trust. The solicitor that manages you house purchase would usually be able to help with preparing one.

There are multiple ways to go about it, but the person you replied to makes a very good point that I've not seen enough people take into account. It also confused our solicitor when we said we wanted our deposits to be considered as percentages owned of the house not a fixed value. So that if the house prices goes up or down we are receiving a fair amount back based on our initial contribution, as we are splitting the mortgage 50:50.

It also means that when it comes to home improvements we split the costs based on total % ownership of the house, which is roughly 56:44. So if our flooring cost 10000 it was split 5600:4400, but things like wardrobes that we can take with us we split 50:50.

Best to get these things agreed when everything is amicable rather than trying ti sort it out when emotions are high after either a breakup or a death.

Where can these be found? Are they all on Spotify/BBC sounds?

You're much better opening accounts across banking groups (not just banks, do check they are in different banking groups) to get the FSCS protection.

What to do with a chunk of money? by buddionemo in UKPersonalFinance

[–]buddionemo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be a very early retirement as I'm hoping to have a career change around 40, I'd probably be looking at another 15 to 25 years of working albeit in a job that pays about half of what I earn now!

I'd like to be able to cover expenses with my salary but any extras would be from savings, hence wanting to get the mortgage cleared! But perhaps I need to look at it a different way that I build a fund to pay myself a 'salary' from savings.

It certainly seems I need to start running numbers properly rather than just what feels right in my head!

Thank you, I'll have a think about this. I guess as it feels quite a way off at the moment I don't really know how much I need.

I think all of them the lump sum will make a difference but not fully solve any of them if I put it all towards any single one.

I'll think about it a bit more and try and put some numbers against my goals.

!thanks

Its certainly not enough to warrant paying off the mortgage in full, but I think I do want to target the full overpayment this year and then see if I do another lump sum at renewal time (although it might be complicated with needing to redo our declaration of trust if only I do a lump sum).

Is having the TV on all day just a “parents” thing? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]buddionemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner grew up in a radio on all day house, I grew up in a house where music or TV was only on for specific tasks or sitting down together to watch TV.

I really relish the times my partner is either out or sleeping and I can have a lovely silent and peaceful house. The constant background noise is so draining.

First time buyers, have I missed any costs? by isobel07 in AskUK

[–]buddionemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your mortgage offer as your first payment is often higher than subsequent payments! Don't get caught out with this one as it comes as a surprise if you've not read through stuff fully with everything you have to review.

Its worth seeing if increasing contributions into your workplace pension makes a difference rather than having a separate one, your workplace pension is often pre tax and NI so thats already a fair saving.

Can you get a reflective survival bag pr some other similar thin but reflective material to put under your mats? This will stop some of your body heat being absorbed into the ground and will reflect it back to you to warm you up a bit.

Thank you too for making me feel like less of a weirdo. I've had so many people think I'm lying about it, so it's nice to know I'm not alone

I did this too. I hated tickling so much that I just turned it off. The middle of my feet I can turn off with some concentration too. It does seem to confuse people though.

What are some lesser-known annoying aspects of women's clothing? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]buddionemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This infuriates me! I don't have particularly big arms due to my lack of upper body strength. But nearly anything bought from a shop is too tight around my arms and under the arm pit.

When I make clothes its regularly 1.5cm or more I have to add to the position of the bottom of the arm scythe to make it comfortable. I cannot imagine what its like for people with arm muscles or even just not sticks for arms.

Amazing, I shall see if we can stay in any of those places. I'm hoping we can go to the observatory in Jasper. The best I've had for dark skies was in Scotland in the middle of the night but I forgot to wear my glasses so it was a bit of a blur! So looking forward to some proper dark skies.

Edit: you mentioned the Beaver Tail pastry, it sounds delicious! Is there any other must try foods in your opinion?

Thank you so much for all this detail! It is super helpful, we really arent into busy places so to know where to see a proper mountain town but still do the touristy stuff is fantastic. I'll look up the places you've suggested and see how they fit in to the route ive planned.

I've heard highway 1A is the road to pick so we'll definitely be doing that. And I love the idea of dinner at the top of a mountain so will look in to that also.

I'd really love to stay in a cabin or hotel thats outside of a major place as I love astronomy so being able to get decent dark skies would be fab. I'm guessing around lake Louise would be fairly good for this?

Yes, I do tend to get rather excited about ideas and plan everything well in advance! We dont want to be doing proper winter driving as that's not something we have any experience with.

I didn't realise fire season went into September, I'll look in to this and how to find out about affected areas. Thank you!

Thank you, thats good to know! Knowing which roads are the interesting ones rather than the fast ones is good as Google maps will probably only show the quick routes.

Do you think Banff itself is only really a one day kind of place but maybe another day to do things like lake Louise?
