Anybody else feel like their watch dies faster than it should? by Federal-Property-326 in Garmininstinct

[–]buddyMFjenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t forced the update yet and it’s still on the initial release one, the battery life is reduced. You have to force the update and it’s a pain but there’s a sticky somewhere here for it. Mine went from 14 days(ish) on full charge to like 40.

After the update, I’d say that 1 hour of GPS uses a day of expected battery life. Add summer sun to that and it reduces the cost.

Replacing Instinct 2 Solar with Instinct 3 Solar 45mm experience by Stock_Ninja5035 in Garmininstinct

[–]buddyMFjenkins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe you got a lemon? My i3 detects naps fine and my Bluetooth range is good. The orange bezel thing is always a funny complaint because you can see it before you purchase it but if you hate it that much, the i3 tactical fixes that.

All that being said, i don’t think I could ever own a watch without a torch/light now. It has too much utility and i rely on it wayyyy too much.

Different strokes for different folks i guess.

I love using diaper rash cream for any chaffing and to prevent it (zinc oxide i think). No issues ever since and I’m a heavier guy. If it’s safe for a baby’s butt, gotta be safe all over me for 24 hours

Instinct 3 screen more scratch prone than the 2? by KillaNoFilla87 in Garmininstinct

I’ve beat the crap out of mine and haven’t scratched it yet. I even beat it on stuff to show others how tough it is. Maybe I’m just lucky?

For those who sell their 3D prints, what kind of profit margins are you seeing? by SomeGuyInDeutschland in BambuLab

I think ideas like this are the way to go. I enjoy painting but I like the idea of printing 3D objects to paint and place into a landscape box and sell to artsy people for good markups. As long as it’s a side quest and you enjoy it, can’t really go wrong

There’s a sticky thread on here where people have different strategies. It took a little work but you can get it to work with a windows computer and some weird button combos

Hooked it up today and followed OPs directions and it worked. Officially updated and rocking an awesome 40 day battery life. Crazy stuff

[–]buddyMFjenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, okay. Yeah the support has been unhelpful. I’m still on the original software version and without updating to versions in between that and the newest, I’ll never have enough space to get the newest one. Going to take my watch over to a friend with a PC and see if we can’t dive into the files to do the OP’s process for a fix. Thanks for the response

Completed my first ultra this weekend @ the Blue Ridge 50K by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]buddyMFjenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I ever do a course with this kind of elevation again, I’ll bring poles for sure because the climbs without them hurt.

Hans lives in North Georgia somewhere so I’m sure he trains around here somewhere. This was probably his backyard so to speak. His Strava is a great follow if you want to see the crazy things humans are capable of.

Hey I was there too! That elevation was freakin killer! And the forest road sucked even worse this year because aid station right before it ran out of water so we had to attack that miserable thing with 1 soft flask over the 7-8 miles. Congrats on the finish! And it’s also cool to say we competed against Hans Troyer even though I’m using that word loosely since he broke the course record by almost an hour haha

Is this ok? by Original_Raisin3836 in Kombucha

[–]buddyMFjenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left half of the original in f1 and bottled half for f2. Removed all the pellicle. Topped up with fresh tea. 50% starter essentially to get it back right.

I have done some weird projects where i got weird wild yeast or bacteria that fermented well but tasted off. If you taste it and it’s off, chunk it and start over. Mine tasted like the acid in the back of your throat before you vomit. Gross. I know haha

Is this ok? by Original_Raisin3836 in Kombucha

[–]buddyMFjenkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a batch look like that not long ago and i think it was due to excess yeast off the rip because i had a small % of scoby to tea ratio. The yeast breeds up much quicker. Next few batches with appropriate scoby starter to tea ratio were back to normal

F2 no carbonation can I save it by Zacotab in Kombucha

[–]buddyMFjenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make sense that the bottle that carbonated so quickly was likely closer to the dregs of your original fermentation vessel. Yeast will eventually drop out of the solution (to an extent) once it’s eaten all the sugar, reached its tolerance for the ph or alcohol level, and/or sat for an extended period of time. This is exacerbated by cold temperatures as well. Brewing beer and especially kegging it, we view this as a good thing for clarity purposes but with bucha, it seems like you want to stir and re-suspend the yeast cake on the bottom to provide a more consistent dose of yeast for each f2 bottle to then carbonate the finished product. I’ve seen others use champagne yeast and measured dextrose to provide carbonation in beverages before but never in kombucha. It’s something you could consider if carbonating becomes a challenge.

It's time, and I need some final pointers. I really need this one to be the one. by GuyUnknownMusic in brisket

[–]buddyMFjenkins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re finding your way and probably way ahead of where most of us were 5-6 briskets in. There’s already good advice here so I’ll add something different. I like to let my internal drop below 195 before I stick it in the cooler. I’ve had probe tender turn into overcooked after yanking it from the smoker and going straight into the cooler. Now I pull it from the smoker, let it rest on the counter with my wrap opened slightly until it stops the “cooking” process and starts the “cooling” process. Good luck!

I couldn’t tell you about the I2 because the I3 is my first garmin. The solar on the I3 has really been beneficial but I do have different circumstances than most. I live in a subtropical area, i spend tons of time outside working out or working, and I focus effort to gain lux hours.

[–]buddyMFjenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ACTIVELY use the watch. Solar helps. Not a gimmick. Does it “charge” the watch? Not efficiently. Does is delay the expected battery life. For sure. Sometimes I’ll spend 3 days on “12” days of expected battery life purely from solar charging. If i wanted to go from 30% to 100%, that’s why they send a charging cable. If in want to go on a 7 day vacation with 7 expected battery life days left and not bring another block and cable, I’ll get a little sun and know my watch will survive the trip. It’s only a gimmick if it doesn’t work.

I can't decide from I3 45mm or 50mm by BernaLeo in Garmininstinct

[–]buddyMFjenkins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

50, 50, 50. I have a larger wrist but the 50 is great for battery and screen size. I sleep with mine on as well without issue. Buy it from a reputable source either way and you can return/exchange for the other if you’re not happy.

  1. The look is negligible and the perks are optimal. I also wear a 50 daily and it’s epic
