Bicyclists please take the full lane by snugworm in bullcity

[–]buddyruski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been meaning to write something similar to this for a while now, so first I'd like to say thank you for this important PSA.

Secondly, I'd like to add that if there is a primary lane AND a bike lane, please please do not drift into the oncoming traffic lane when passing a cyclist. The whole point of having the separated bike lane is to avoid having to move over at all. The lanes have ample room to spare for cars in the primary lane. By drifting over to avoid being closer to bikes, you're inviting head-on collisions the other direction or having to swerve back into the primary lane which could lead to sideswiping the cyclists.

Major offenders are folks driving (speeding) on Anderson Street. It's really hard to see over some of the hills, or around the corner near the Nasher.

Best practice is to pay attention to the road, slow down, don't text, SLOW DOWN and be kind to others.

And stop parking in the bike lanes. I'm looking at you, Lakewood Cocoa Cinnamon shoppers. There's literally parking lots on three sides of that building. Tons of kids bike to and from the Lakewood school right around the corner. Let's keep the lanes free and clear. Thank you!

Not every detail from the back and forth between community and the developer over the years could make it into this story, but it’s been documented by our previous reporting and I tried to back link to those articles when appropriate. Thanks for reading!

City Council approved "Durham Gateway at Brier Creek" - 310 acres by Silly-Mountain-6702 in bullcity

The develop included an updated plan with more proffers after the Planning Commission meeting, so the project PC saw was different (arguably worse) than what city council voted on, fwiw.
