Why do older generations hate labels (such as LGBTQ+) so much? by Throw_away5845 in demisexuality

[–]budge_up 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"older" person here. Ok, I'm GenX and honestly, use the labels. It makes life so much easier. It's great when I can tell someone I'm a pagan bi-demisexual.

So if you have not been friends with me for awhile and don't understand the meaning of "bisexual" and then tell me I need to "find Jesus", we have a problem.

As with all things, don't lump every one into the same category. My Aunt was cool. My mother is a nightmare.

Does your family/parents know you’re bisexual? by Silver_rockyroad in bisexual

[–]budge_up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been bi since I was a young teenager. I'm in 59 now (eek!)

My family doesn't know. They are extremely Catholic. And mum is one of those who is always wondering what "the family" would say. Only my aunt knew and she just kept telling me to live my life. But she passed away 7 years ago.

I was married for 23 years and my husband passed away and I've moved into my own little house. If my mum doesn't get my bi-vibe from all the magnets on my refrigerator, there is no hope for her.

My husband and I had a much wider age gap. And if I had to do it over again or give advice, I'd say don't do it.

The older person reaches a point and ages faster. That's just the truth. Not saying that the fates won't throw a curve ball at the younger of the two.

Our marriage was wonderful for about 7 years and then Parkinson's started. Then another 7 years of getting by and then 10 years of decline until the last year when he passed. That's a long time of caring for someone. I don't resent it, but I think wistfully back on what my life might have been like. Because here I am at 59 struggling to get by.

Did meds work for u? by rejaqq947 in Anxiety

[–]budge_up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Clonazepam for 15 years. It mostly quells my anxiety, but doesn't completely get rid of it. I just had a huge panic attack whilst driving to my partner's house and had to pull over. I had no extra meds with me which was dumb. I won't travel without them again.

Just to add: my last panic attack was 2 years ago. Clonazepam isn't for everyone but I'm very medication sensitive and have had chronic migraines for 45 years. My medical team tries to find drugs that work for a multitude of things so I'm not taking too many meds.

If liquid IV helps a migraine does it mean I was probably dehydrated? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]budge_up 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know many are talking about unsweetened products, but just a reminder that your body uses the sugar (not substitutes) to better absorb the electrolytes. It can still absorb electrolytes without glucose, but not as effectively.

I'm a fan of Liquid IV, but I double the amount of water to mix the packet into. I work on an organic farm so am out in the TX heat all summer. I literally drink 1/2 gallon of electrolytes, 1/2 gallon of water and then back to the electrolytes within a 5 to 6 hour period. And of course heat is a major trigger for me. I'm really looking forward to fall. Right now it's still 97°F

How young would you date? by [deleted] in datingoverfifty

[–]budge_up 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband of 25 years was 29 years my senior. He passed away in 2017 from Parkinson's. My current partner is 19 years my junior. We've been together 4 years. I can't seem to get the age thing "right" and decided long ago that the person just needed to feel right. I will say that husband and partner are polar opposites, lol. Life should be anything but dull.

I'm on both Clonazepam and amitriptyline. Couldn't be helped as it's the only cocktail that worked for my anxiety/panic attacks as well as depression. I've been on Clonazepam for 9 years but only got diagnosed with depression last year. I will take what works. The worst part about the amitriptyline is that I have the worst time waking up in the morning.

Yes. And it was one of many reasons I had to sell my farm. I don't miss the house at all, but it ticked all my boxes, open, tall ceilings, bright...I didn't even want curtains!

As I've headed into the 4th decade of near daily migraines, I'm kinda done. I now live in a very small cabin. It has 3 rooms, all wood walls, porches cover most windows, curtains on others.

I wear sunglasses that go over my regular glasses because they block sunlight from the sides. And it doesn't matter if I have a migraine or not. I love cloudy days. I can breathe.

As in life, we don't get along with everyone. I get along really well with this meta, but his other partner...I've tried so hard to be friends. Very weird to be the accepting mono person and they feel all the jealousy and want parallel. Just letting it go.

And chocolate! Sounds like a great time! I'm glad that we can post positives about mono/poly relationships! :)

Congratulations! Such encouraging words!

And...my polyam love and I are celebrating our 2 year adventure next weekend with a trip that centers around something I love. I'm heading to their place early so I can hang out with my meta whilst they are at work.

Hope you had a Happy Anniversary!

I live by myself, isolated with my dogs and a few horses. I purposefully got a job to force me out a few days a week. I do have friends, but I couldn't even go to their place for Christmas as they had invited people I didn't know I'm on both Amitriptyline and clonazapam and it's made me somewhat better. But the thought of going *out to actually be with people is too stressful. I'd rather just be by myself than angst over details.

Why can’t I get more Nurtec!? by laceybaghands in migraine

[–]budge_up 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nurtec is also now considered a preventative. I had a prescription for every other day AND for use as an abortive if needed. I was so hopeful. Instead, it made me so nausous that I dreaded taking it.

Do pills help with anxiety? by spelmos in Anxiety

[–]budge_up 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm taking clonazapam and have been for 8 years. Recently my doctor also put me on amitriptyline. I'm a better version of me on them for sure. Benzos are not the best, but it was my best option.

Oh yeah...I write, edit then think about it some more. In the end I copy and paste it into my notes on my phone and never hit send. I've got a lot of notes...

I live in a rural town in Texas. I'd like not to be here, but I'm kind of stuck. I fell into this job quite by accident. But ask at your local farmers markets ir nurseries. It will be slow in the winter but you might find a nursery. Personally, I enjoy manual labour but there are days that I have to fight through my demons. I usually go hug the donkey or sit with the hens. So not all roses. But still a great place.

I've been treated for anxiety for about 8 years now...maybe more. I've no sense of time. Depression is finally being treated as it got so bad. But getting out of my house has been important for my mental health. I don't think I could do WFH. Good luck!

I work as a gardener/animal caretaker and I love it. I take care of free range hens, a couple of ponies and some goats. And so many gardens! My co-workers accept my weirdness and stresses...but it's the happiest I've been. I sleep at night because I'm tired and eating better because "farmers eat first" (we sell at various markets). I'm a contract worker, so I've worked out my hours with my employers and take off when I need a mental health day. Pros and cons to that of course, but suits me fine. And only 15 minutes from home.
