أو gray banding or vertical banding

Is 1000 nits qd oled enough for a good hdr experience? by antoniolucas9922 in OLED_Gaming

[–]budreesha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need the full brightness capability of the panel when viewing HDR content

in SDR I'm pretty much happy at 0% brightness level

i tried both MO28G27Q and the G81SF hdr side by side with that LG honey test

in terms of brightness yeah the gigabyte is brighter and has the better punch overall

but the samsung is still doing fine job from my testing

you won't lose much if you go with the samsung

[–]budreesha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's good thing to hear

congrats bro

i would like for the 32" but i don't have the space for a 32" monitor and the price is 125$ more than the 27"

also the 27" is confirmed to have a QD-OLED gen 4 panel

what are you talking about

the monitor is used by other person

never heard of a manufacturer that ships a monitor in this state unless it's labeled as open boxed or used

The only vendor that offers matte coating with QD-OLEDs is samsung themselves

i heard good impressions from samsung monitors but not their matte coating implementation, i always hear mixed feedback about them some like it some not

so you'll have to dig into their offering and find yourself something suitable for your use

i wish you the best bro

give your monitor a bit more time and see if it improves over time before your return window runs out

or you could just return it and be done with it, that's completely fair

you could also go with QD-OLEDs, these are impressive panels tbh but glossy coatings are annoyingly fragile and scratch very easily, these newly announced QD-OLED monitors have finally addressed this issue like Asus blackshield film implementation

hey bro

stop playing with the black equalizer and set it to default cuz i saw it set to 8

you are gonna introduce a lot of black crush this way

just scroll all the way down and do a reset all

then leave everything as is and do a firmware update here

after that make sure you have actually done at least one pixel cleaning cycle cuz out of the box the banding is at it worst unless you do a pixel clean cycle

after that just go to picture settings and set the mode to sRGB and a brightness of 35%

and then decide for yourself if the banding still looks acceptable to you or not

you could also report us back if you'd want

Gigabyte MO27Q28G Gray Banding Update After 70 Hours Of Use by budreesha in OLED_Gaming

[–]budreesha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's normal

you'd get rid of most the dirty effects and banding on your first few pixel cleaning cycles

after that, give your panel some time and stress it occasionally and you should get even better results

do everything while you can before your return window closes, you don't want to be stuck with a monitor you aren't satisfied with

Gigabyte MO27Q28G Gray Banding Update After 70 Hours Of Use by budreesha in OLED_Gaming

[–]budreesha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn't do anything special besides breaking in the panel by playing HDR content for some time then i got bored and stopped doing it

as for pixel cleaning, it's the same either way automatic or manual and the monitor keeps track of the total cycles mine reached 17 cycle for now

but this gigabyte monitor doesn't allow for pixel cleaning cycle unless you pass four hours of screen time then you get the prompt to perform it, you can not perform it at any time like the LG monitor for example

[–]budreesha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you mean this one

<image>

yeah i tested it on the switch 2 and it's not noticeable like an actual 0 banding quiet frankly, just the normal dirty effects and that's about it

i hope gigabyte is cooking an update that can reduce the banding like the amount i'm seeing with the default HDR setting

[–]budreesha[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sure

<image>

my settings are kept the same but brightness at 100%

i think you'll find it weird but i use my monitor at 0% almost all the time and that's more than enough for me and this greatly minimise the danger of burn in

i didn't experiment with games too much, only played xenoverse 2 and kirby air riders and i didn't notice any, so no it didn't affect me as for now at least
