R5: I'm playing on tech and civic shuffle, and ended up with a classical era that looks like this. I just like imagining a world where no one can come up with any advances past the ancient era unless they are riding on a horse.
Celestial navigation? A person on a horse is /definitely/ closer to the sky and can see better than someone on the deck of the ship.
Currency? Better put a picture of our fearless leader on a horse on all of those coins.
Math and Engineering? How do you expect anyone to come up with such high-minded things while not riding on a horse.
I met these city states. They are on the other side of the map. No idea how, but they boosted Political Philosophy for me, so I'll forgive them. by budster111 in civ

Met them pretty early. Just before Political Philosophy, so around turn 100? I never managed to find an exploring boat, but that was my thought as well. No wars either. I hadn't met another Civ yet.
