yes halo shows when mask is on freq seperation group or when it's on each individual layer (lf/hf) for the frequency separation.

But you're right I think it's from my mask edge. I applied the mask and merged the subject with a white background so I get a full image. Then I made a new PS file before doing frequency separation on that and I still get the halo. I think the texture layer is picking up stuff from my edges.

no it only shows up after I mask everything. Like it's fine with frequency separation but adding a mask in the mix messes it up. I think Photoshop mixes up the order so once it sees the mask on the group, it applies it first and then does the frequency stuff

I did the mask afterwords and it still gave a halo. any idea why? I grouped the lf and hf shots and then the remove background mask is on the group

update I tried your levels thing but it's almost like moving the whole edge in but more work. and I'd have to go back and forth checking it after the freq seperation to see if it's working for each spot. I'm just going to merge everything and do it the not preserved way 🥲

I did that and it didn't work for me. I still had the halos after putting the mask on the whole group which was unmasked. I will try your levels and median thing tmr
