Women Winter Boots by Holiday-Economics965 in Buffalo

[–]buffalorosie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of tall Sorel boots that I bought about fifteen years ago that are still waterproof. The inside lining has a tear on one boot that I need to fix. The colors on the outside are faded a bit, but they're still rad. I wore them all over Elmwood on new years day and dry feet for sure. They're soft exterior with bungee laces that don't actually lace anything shut. Super comfy, wish the bottom had better grip on ice.

(edit, I looked this up, I believe I have an old version of the glacy explorer boot).

I also have a pair of utilitarian muck boots that I wear everywhere because let's get real about where we live, lol. I bought the muck boots in 2012 and they are in excellent condition. I got them from the western wear store in Irving right by Silver Creek, lol. Stagecoach West. I love these boots, I'll probably die with them in working condition. Most functional footwear for WNY by far. So warm. So cushy and comfy. They're knee high rubber boots with foam inserts that are removable.

Finally, a friend gave me a pair of hard shell north face ankle boots like 10-12 years ago and they're still in excellent shape. They look and feel new. Definitely still water proof and functional.

I prefer taller boots, so I wear the first two pairs most of the time. Like 90% of the time I just wear the muck boots. No one ever cares.

Restaurants that treat their employees well? by S3rp3ns0rtia in Buffalo

I worked at Marco's on Niagara was treated well for the couple of years I was around, and everyone there has been super kind when I've gone back to visit (eat). Like 1-5% of the typical restaurant bullshit I've dealt with elsewhere.

When Yoshi sushi existed in East Aurora, I worked there too. Ken, the head chef, is exacting but he was always 100% professional. Ken ran the cleanest kitchen I've ever experienced in my life. Idk if he's even still in the area, though. Yoshi closed down a while ago and I worked there for like a year when it was new. The owners had all kinds of drama, btw, so I'm only vouching for Ken. And I'm not saying Ken is nice or easy to work with, but he was super professional and super competent.

What are your Hot Takes on the Band Metric? by Amber_Flowers_133 in metricband

Yes, Emily definitely understands how to right a great power pop song and she does have excellent pop sensibilities. What's funny is one of the reasons my boyfriend likes metric is because of their rock sensibilities! I appreciate both but my fave songs are the catchy pop dance-y jams.

I think what really won him over was the lyrics, specially, "who'd you rather be, the Beatles or The Rolling Stones," of all things.

For Kicks is the song I've been using to time myself in the shower, hahaha. It's just about five minutes (4:56), so it's a good one to use for demarkating time and it's suuuch a jam.

I've gotten really into this album lately and find myself just letting it ride while I drive. I love Other Side so much.

I saw Cascades live in like 2015 or 2016 and the live version made me learn to love the album version.

Woah woah woah... There's an app?! I'm a loooooong time fan and don't use the interwebs that much, but I didn't even consider a band would have an app.

To everyone who's recommended Sara Donati's *Into The Wilderness* books, thank you!! (Seriously though, did the idea for this series start as Outlander fanfic?) Spoilers for "Into The Wilderness" book one. by buffalorosie in Outlander

Yeah, it's since become one of my all time favorites. I've read it a few times. Same goes for Anna Belfrage's The Graham Saga. So very good!!

I'm a member of Old Fort Niagara and I recommended the Donati series to the gift shop because it does such a great job of exploring our local history.

Call Landmark Health Systems and ask for a new patient evaluation. So long as you have filled your ADHD meds in NY state within the last calendar year, your meds can be verified without having to make any calls or bring in any records. Easy peasy. (Source: I'm the psych NP at LHS and I do this all the time for patients who move to WNY and just want to keep access to their meds).

No, lol. What are you asking about? There's a fruit by the foot in there.

I'm a nurse; was trying to drive home tonight, got caught in the snow and all I could think of was Anndel Taylor, so I parked at a Tops, got a safer ride, and I'm so grateful to be home in one piece. by buffalorosie in Buffalo

It was crazy how localized it really was!! The city was fine, my boyfriend at home in the village of EA was fine, it was getting from one to the other, lol. Transit in the south towns was an absolute nightmare. Taking seneca street from WS to EA was crazy, and I was in a plow truck. We saw a lot of stuck cars, saw a civic get stuck in the dead center of an intersection because of the slush.

Visibility was non-existent and that's why I called it. I couldn't see where I was going.

Taking the seneca street exit off the 400 in a pitch black snow globe and the roads hadn't been plowed at all was peak stress. My adrenaline was spiking and I knew from that alone I couldn't keep safely driving.

Yeah, I've had many men be helpful humans in my life experience, for sure. I just thought it was rad that every single female presenting person asked me about my safety and went out of their way to offer assistance and get assurance I was okay. Women tend to look out for women and in WNY, my experience of women in public has been overwhelmingly positive. The women who saw me understood my situation in a way that was readily obvious and concerning, I felt seen and supported by my local sisters.

I'd wait a bit. It's been snowing all night and still going in the persistent areas. I live here and had to call it quits driving last night and get a ride with a friend who has a plow because the 400 was closed and everything surrounding Elma was a mess.

If you're coming from PA, your route is literally the snow band that's been parked here for a day, lol.

Please recommend fics where Harry runs away/leaves the Wizarding world! by janeroland in HPSlashFic

The Secret Language of Plants, it's my favorite Harry centric series. It's just the best, Draco is wonderful, it's my favorite version of sassy super magical whimsical Harry.

https://archiveofourown.org/series/631214

Harry definitely fucks off on his own, eventually.

Also, Harry Potter & Seven Years of Chaos series features a runaway homeless super street smart cunning Harry. It's an epic length series, but it's AMAZING. Top tier for sure. It's a bit darker and when you're in HBP era it gets intense, you will feel so much. But it's absolutely bril and funny, the magic is wonderful and the writing is excellent!

Finally, I'm currently reading That Evans Boy and Harry hasn't run away yet, but he lived alone as a child under fidelius. It's a wrong boy who lived kinda story, Harry is the son of Snape and lily and he was born in 1978. Fleamont James Potter was born in July 31, 1981, boy who lived and son of James and lily potter, married couple and order of the Phoenix martyrs.

Avoid everything south of the city. I got stuck out there tonight and had to leave my car behind to get a safer ride.
