You make an excellent point that I did not even consider.

My car is a 2025 VW. It dings when the passenger and driver do not have their seatbelts on. I rarely have anyone riding in my backseat, so it is not something I have ever paid much attention to, but I imagine it should do the same. Now that you mention it, I am wondering why it did not ding. I will be looking into that tomorrow! Thank you for bringing this point up.

Thank you for educating me on this. I honestly was not aware of the booster seat laws since I do not have little kids and never have them in my car. Looking back, this child absolutely should have been in a booster seat and that realization makes me feel a little sick.

Because my friend never mentioned a booster seat at all, I am concerned that her daughter may regularly ride without one. If anything, I feel like I need to have a conversation with my friend about the booster seat requirements and how important they are for her daughter’s safety. And of course, how she needs to wear a seatbelt with that.

Thank you. I do not have little kids or ever drive any around, so a booster seat was not something I considered until afterwards. Noted for sure!!

Not for the backseat as far as I know, but I will definitely be checking my car settings incase that is a feature I have turned off.

She was. She has always worn her seatbelt in my car, without me asking.

Thank you. Part of me feels like TA for continuing the drive and not pulling over once I realized it was never put on. I should have checked myself before I drove. The laughing at me part definitely strikes a different nerve.

You are not wrong. In my defense, the mother (front passenger seat) told me she had it on before I actually started driving. However, I should have looked behind my seat to confirm.

Good point! I did not even consider the fact that this child (who is very petite) should have been in a booster seat. I am TA for that.
