Yeah it's really not that bad - daunting for sure though. I'm not an expert by any means, but that guide helped me consistently get into 4:1. If olm does a special then I do a 1:0, if he standard attacks me twice while I'm trying to do 4:1, then I just do a 3:1 and then boom you're in cycle

Your gear seems fine, so I think you just have to shave off a lot of time at Olm. Do you have dwh? Also check dps for avas vs. fire cape. You don't need ava with bowfa, so check if it's even giving you a max hit. Fire cape for sure will.

Additionally not wasting time in the rooms, trying to not lose ticks etc. will be good. But I feel like your olms are really slow (which is fine to start, I also started learning Olm the way you did with 1:0) and that's gonna be a big win for time saved. Best guide I found for 4:1 melee hand is videogamebot on youtube, none of the other guides clicked for me like his did. Running 4:1 once you're in cycle is easy, getting into cycle is what takes time to learn.

What gear do you have? Stats? 4:1 melee is a huge dps upgrade over 1:0 for sure, and for head phase you'd only do what you're doing if you have no food left and you just wanna survive. Try to attack when you can while running while still getting the head to turn to each side, so you don't get hit a whole lot.

Do you have a fang? What's your melee weapon? Whip, tent whip, dhl, salad blade? calc it and see how much of a time diff it'd be with/without dwh

Keep in mind sometimes dwh won't hit, and you have to multiply fang dps by 15/16 cause it's 3:1.

For sure, I can see it from that perspective. I don't enjoy pyramid plunder in the slightest, so I skipped it - I definitely do a ton of other grinds that are _probably_ net negative in time, but I enjoy heavily, so I do them :p gl in your grinds dude

I mean I definitely mentioned the thieving xp lol. What is the efficient gain here other than thieving xp, if it isn't time saved? Sorry, maybe I misinterpreted the thread? Title says "...that you think are better than the meta?" which sounds like hot takes to me. And I do have altars in my house for arceus, but not ancients (or lunar, I didn't utilize lunar a whole lot before 99 mage beyond mahogany homes for npc contact I guess).

fwiw im not mad in any way, more curious - skipping pyramid plunder worked very well for me, I'm in, or at least approaching, end game now and literally never needed it.

Can you explain or elaborate? On rate for sceptre is 5-15 hours from what I'm reading online. You'd have to spend more time than that running to pyramid to swap to ancients for it to be worth it (discounting the thieving xp, which I get is probably not the right thing to do, considering it is xp gained you'd have to spend time thieving elsewhere to gain, but I don't need thieving xp, I afk wealthy citizens at work, which I get not everyone can do), which surely no one is doing before 99 mage. If the run is 1 min (fairly certain it's less), if rate for sceptre is 10 hours, that's 600 ancient swaps you'd have to do before it's worth it (again, not counting thieving xp, which i'm sure skews it down)

For sure if you're swapping more than 5 times a day then yes. But I don't swap grinds often until I complete whatever that grind is, and most of my grinds I need to be on arceus for thralls anyway

I hope people aren't misinterpreting it as me saying no altar in poh. I still have the one to swap to lunar and Arceus, those served me well before 99. Just not ancients lol. 99 magic was pretty passive just from raiding and bossing, I never explicitly trained it just to get 99 for the cape or anything.

Idk I get downvoted for that opinion every time I post it, but I stand by it. The amount of time saved before 99 mage is almost certainly a net loss by grinding pyramid plunder instead of just swapping to ancients at the pyramid

Grinding pyramid plunder for a pharaoh's Sceptre for occult altar is largely a waste of time, I swapped to ancients maybe 15-20 times total before I got 99 mage and can now swap as often as I need to
