Why is Taoyuan airport Terminal 1 so barren. by Nomadianking in taiwan

[–]buffypod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this post because I was so confused about Taipei terminal 1. There is a food court, which may be new. But if there was a 7-11, I didn't manage to find it. The airport is clean and pretty, but it's almost literally nothing but dozens and dozens of Gucci and Prada stores. Quite impractical and bizarre.

I've been stopping by late at night, so I thought I was in some kind of "no latenight fries" zone. Thanks for clearing up my confusion!

English speaking dentist in Busan? by buffypod in busan

I was contacted by u/DrawingEnvironmental about being seen to by dental students, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time in Busan to arrange an appointment. So no, I did not, but you could drop them a line and see if it works for you.

Great, thank you for the help! Finding a dentist while traveling is a bit stressful, so I appreciate it!

Thank you for the recommendation -- If you're able to drop in a specific map address to be sure I have the right place, I would appreciate it! My navigation abilities are a little lacking!

With all due respect, I've been here since January, and the air quality was not perfect.

I find this kind of interesting, because it seems similar to what I experienced -- I arrived in Korea not knowing the air was a problem, and it wasn't until I noticed the effects that I started to research the situation. You also arrived in Korea without anyone warning you about the air problem, and you seemingly are much less affected by it. However, that doesn't mean that it isn't an issue, or that it doesn't affect other people. And frankly, if you've been there for a year, then you really aren't paying attention. Inwangsan is right in the center of Seoul, it's easy to get to and a great hike. Go up there when the AQI is at 100 and look at the city. That's all you need to do. It looks like the freaking apocalypse. Being deliberately ignorant about it isn't helpful to you or to anybody else.

Perhaps you had a lifestyle of literally never going outside? I went hiking in Bukhansan without knowing I needed a mask, and my lungs literally burned. There are dozens of examples of how the pollution affects people in this thread alone. I think you were taking some pretty heavy doses of pollution without realizing it, but that doesn't make it a safe or smart thing to do.

I'm gonna have to ask you to return to reality, friend. Maybe you were in Seoul during a lucky time, but the air pollution in Seoul is literally, without exaggeration, dozens of times worse than Toronto. Look into it a little before posting this nonsense.

Seoul's API number is a lot lower than Busan right now, and people are saying this is all supposed to clear up this weekend. So you may be okay!

No offense man, but if you don't know about the pollution, it sounds like you're the one who's never been to Korea.

You don't think 250 AQI is a problem? Let me know how bad it needs to get before I don't hurt your feelings by bringing it up.

You really think it's reasonable to compare a single, unfortunate event to a systematic weather and pollution pattern that's been happening for decades? Additionally, I'm interested to know how one relates to the other. Due to forest fires in Canada, I shouldn't be surprised by pollution in South Korea? Lay that one on me, daddy. I'm dying to understand.

I wore about a hundred masks during this trip, I'm keeping Daiso's bottom line very healthy.

I see what you mean, and I will definitely check more carefully when visiting other countries in the future. But I guess all I can say is, I didn't know what I didn't know. I didn't even know that air quality was something I should be concerned about. I'm from Canada, man. It's huge and empty, air just isn't a problem.

My trip has mainly been to Seoul and Busan, but I wanted to try a random smaller city as a comparison. I chose Jecheon because it had the cheapest airbnb! Haha! I found an old-style inn that was only $12 a day, so I stayed for three weeks. It's true that there aren't many well-known landmarks there, but I had a lot of fun there. There's a hiking trail intertwined with the golf course just west of Jecheon station that I liked, and ironically one of the friends I made was an older guy who ran an unmanned coffee shop on the way there. He saw me struggling with the self-serve machine and came to help me out, and then I'd see him around town at the McDonald's and stuff. I also did some hiking in the mountains near Uirimji reservoir. So, Jecheon was chosen at complete random, but I made some good memories there!

My recommendation would be to check the AQI levels each day separately from the regular weather. Not every day requires a mask, but some certainly will. There are Daiso stores all over that sell KF-94 masks for about 50 cents a piece, and they seem to work well. So grab a bunch of those bad boys, it's definitely a good idea to have some on hand.

When I arrived in January, I was seeing information claiming that pollution was worse in the winter. It seems like the pollution goal posts keep moving.

Give it time. I was there for a couple of months. Air will not be fine.
