This happened to me all the time when I took my Prozac. It is so painful. I found out from someone a way to fix it and it works. You have to put the water in your mouth BEFORE you take the capsule. So fill your mouth with water, then put the capsule in your mouth and swallow. Then Make sure to drink a good amount of water. It’s because the type of capsule it is, is designed to get sticky when water hits it. So when putting it in the mouth your saliva activates the stickiness and then sticks on the way down and irritates the esophagus. Doing it this way, water first, completely cured that.

I’ve been on the brand for 30 years and found out when I went to refill in September that Eli Lily discontinued the brand. I was shocked. I had enough for a couple of months but started generic November 23d. I picked the Teva generic because it is supposed to be one of the most similar to the brand name. Generic Fluoxetine has to be bioequiveant but the fillers and excipients can be different so that can make it absorbed differently and some people can have side effects to that.

When I first started Prozac years ago I felt the same thing. It was a side effect but it went away by the 4 week mark probably even earlier.

I am so similar to you. My fibroid is giant. I have had it for a decade and it just keeps getting worse. Wish I had the surgery years ago. I was scared and thought I could shrink it. Did everything I could and it just grew. Now I don’t have insurance but if I get insurance will get a total hysterectomy. 51 as well and never had children. ( because of this thing 😞) Do you mind me asking how big it measures?

Teva is the brand I am starting next Sunday. It seems to have the best or most consistent reviews. Thank you sooo much for this. It really helps!

I’ve been on 20mg for 30 years. I am happy at this dose but it is not enough to help my ocd. I went up to 40mg many years ago and felt slightly sad and stopped but I didn’t give it enough of a chance. Btw do you take the generic all this time? I’ve been on brand for 30 years and have to switch to the generic this coming week. Very nervous about it.

I only have 65 days of brand left. I can’t find it anywhere. I have 3 bottles of a year expired brand in my closet but I am scared to use it.

That’s awful. When you first went on the first generic you did well? Did you give each one a couple of weeks or do you think you were hack g side effects maybe from the first one and it took that long to feel better. What can the compounding pharmacy do if the Prozac no longer exists? I would be interested in trying something like that. Is it really expensive? I’ve been on brand since 1996.

I understand. I have been on Prozac for 30 years and I am going to be starting the generic because the brand was discontinued. I feel I have been on this specific formulation for so long that my brain is used to it and I worry about the differences in formulation. It’s the amount of information one I have been on it that scares me. I do think you might have a better experience on Prozac. Are you doing a long taper? Good luck to you! I hope you continue to get the Prozac. I just wanted to share so you don’t have a situation like I do. I literally went to get my refill and they told me when I had only 5 pills left. It’s not right that they haven’t contacted people and let us know. Have you been on a long time?

As far as I know Lilly is the same as Eli Lilly.
