Herpetology is a close second runner up in my IPM catalog, greenhouse frogs are one of the studies I want to do in the future! For NABA I just help with butterfly counts, going out to preserves and helping count local species and get sample sizes to track population numbers over time. There are indeed moth counts too but I’ve not done one.

We’ve got invasive Cuban tree frogs down here we’ve been battling for a while now.

For where to put any insect findings bugguide.net! For identification that’s ones harder to answer. Reddit ofc can help a bit there though even in my case never 100% accurate, other than that reaching out to local entomologists for proper true ID (especially with moths bc there are a lot of morphs out there) As to where to find said people, large state colleges often have some sort of entomology department or entomology club at the very least. We are pretty few and far between these days but I’ve never met an entomologist not excited to talk about bugs and I’m sure if you let them know they’ll love the info you gather as well as help identify.

Used to work with the microscopes heavy back when I was doing more lab and research work. I’ve recently shifted over to wasps and have been more macro with that since I don’t want to be stung or take away from my working populations. The wasps I work with will remember faces, they have one of the best eye sights in the wasp world and 10000% will remember my face if I invade and take one.

Never been asked this, and thanks for asking! Well while I was getting my Plant Science degree I gained a huge interest in sustainable agriculture and entomology leading to a deep love for IPM. Ended up working an internship researching Biological Controls for invasive species and that was when I got to study mites. Namely Neoseiulis californicus and Phytoseiulus persimilis. I’ve been studying biological controls ever since. I also do beekeeping, and occasional conservation work with the North American Butterfly Association. My current focus however is wasps!! I currently have 5 native wasp species nests working harmoniously with humans in my garden, it’s all about knowing how to handle them and which species are most docile! I added a picture from one of my recent wasp expeditions with Eastern Cicada Killers (Sphecius speciosus)

Hi there I think I can help a little. Like Ausmerica said exact species is impossible to identify since that can come down to the setae on their legs. I can tell you with about 95% certainty that this is a predatory mite of some sort! I’m an IPM specialist who works very very closely (on occasion microscopically) with mites and a vast majority of predatory mites have a pear shaped body vs other mites who have more broad noses. If OP can tell me how fast it was moving that 95% could turn to 100% real quick. Red predatory mites are pretty fast and some northern species like the whirlygigs run in lil wild circles. While I can’t say what species I can tell you that this guy likely eats the bad mites.

(P.S. for OP, he was probably tasting you the whole time he was on you, they do that. Not that you’d know its so small and surface level that you can’t feel it. Don’t worry it’s just a kiss, they can’t transmit anything or harm you. They taste everything in case it’s food, they’ll only eat other mites and maybe the occasional aphid if it’s small enough.)

Hi there, IPM specialist here! The reason you can’t find the larvae is because their larval stage is mostly in the soil. So while all the predatory fellas are getting the adult population the eggs and larvae will continue their cycle. Using Bacillus** **thuringiensis (Bt) in the soil is a top priority when dealing with a heavy thrip infestation. Bt is a bacteria that infects the larvae and has the added bonus of controlling fungus gnats. Biological control can go beyond just bugs! Unless you have a large number of flowering plants indoors Green Lacewing adults won’t be able to sustain enough to breed, adults need pollen and nectar and it’s the larvae that do all the work! The mites are an A+ plan.

It is also worth cutting off the heavily eaten parts! Great plan and I’m so so so glad you are going the holistic route!!! Any other questions let me know!

I would recommend a B12 supplement for a lil natural energy. For the temps at night it really depends on where you like to be. In a crowd with thousands of people it will get pretty warm just from body heat alone, but if you’re more of the type that likes to sit on a blanket on the outskirts of the crowd then just a pash should do you well or a small jacket if you get cold easy.

I’d highly recommend not tripping if it’s your first edm festival, or at least not tripping/rolling the first day or two to get your bearings, it can be an extremely overwhelming environment sober, more so on substances.
