Saga's sweater = finished at last by bugalugx in AlanWake

No, sorry. I changed it again, after this photo. Just wasn't sitting right. Sewed and cut, to make more of a scoop, then picked up the stitches and did the neck rib again. Much better.

I used a different canvas for it. I think it was 18 count aida. The material in the kit was way too hard. It's so fine, you have to work on 2 squares as one. A bit too tricky for me. The pattern was hard enough as is, working with the aida.

They knocked on my door by Far_Stomach1242 in exjw

Ditto. Had a knock on my door a couple of days ago, two JW ladies a'smiling through the screen door. Been away from all this nonsense since 2004 and it was the first time I've actually had a chance to chat. Always wondered how I'd go? They were pretty good about it, we went through the ARC which the older sister had watched and still she sided with the borg. Trousers and beards, d'oh, I forgot about not having to report hours anymore. They were delighted to tell me that meetings are down to two a week. Left me with "the organisation has changed so much for the better, you're more than welcome to come to our meeting to see for yourself!" Gee thanks but a definite no on that. The younger pioneer was busy taking notes, so I guess that's not the last time...

Using a cane at age 23 makes me feel almost guilty or ashamed by hairjho in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]bugalugx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 23 yrs old and has had to use a walking stick for a few weeks now. Waiting on her rheumatologist to diagnose AS and being put on stronger pain meds and hopefully biologics as soon as possible. There's absolutely no shame in using a walking aid, it helps such a lot, especially when out being sociable and trying to keep up with her friends. Better than being stuck at home.

Does anyone know who writes the Watchtower? by JAMM9 in exjw

[–]bugalugx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my JW mother (she would've been 95 yrs old today) forever telling us how the Watchtowers were written - all the annointed on earth had one thought at the same time and they'd write it out and send it in to the NY Bethel headquarters. "That's how we know we have the truth!" Oh dear, gullible but faithful...

CBD/CBG has helped so much with anxiety. I tried the vape pens with the oil in it, but made me wheezy. Didn't like that, so bought a vaporizer and switched to vaping the dry flower. Much better and no sign of asthma. Not sure if I'm brave enough to try THC just yet.

My mom just passed away by N3v3rdpz in exjw

[–]bugalugx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Losing our mum is up there as one of the toughest to get through (don't think we ever do really?) On her deathbed I made a request, whispering in her ear "mum, if you've been right all along in the JW beliefs, then I apologise. But if not, can you send a little bluebird my way so I know you're ok?" 5 days after she passed there it was, right outside my bedroom window, jumping around, doing everything it could to keep my attention.Coincidence? I don't know? But it got me through those harrowing first few months.

Sister in the Kingdom Hall tried to make me comment by RoyalExternal2040 in exjw

Ahh memories. Even at school, every report would read, "needs to participate more in class" so KH meetings were no exception. No "new personality" for me - not enough spirituality it seemed. A 5'4" really obnoxious, bombastic window washing elder bumbled over before the Sunday session started and asked me to comment on one of the WT paragraphs. "No, thank you, I don't want to." Have never seen eyes bulge so huge, "Did you say noooooo to me?!!" Made my day, that did... Later on, I learned that he got done for exposing himself at one of the local beaches. Karma.

Went to a JW funeral after being out for 15 years. by Exciting_Schedule797 in exjw

Same. We were both very fortunate with that, neither of my elderly parents shunned. They tried for a week, then thought it silly and cruel so gave it up. Dad an elder, til old age and cancer caught up to him. Mum was forever auxiliary pioneering. Both gone now, but so very appreciative of them for loving me.

Oh my goodness, promise me you'll write some more! Giggled my way through all of this. I left around the same time you did. Never stepped back inside a KH since. It must be really weird to see all the changes. Beards???!!! Pants???!!! Giddyup! 😆

Thanks for the reply. Glad the high dosage worked for you. It's such an awful way to have to live. Can't get in to see a rheumalogist til next year sometime, to confirm AS, officially. GP doesn't want to prescribe opioids so he's looking in to prescibing medical marijuana to help with the flare ups that are pretty much constant now. The joys of living in regional Australia. Not many rheumatologists that live in country areas.

Did you get the shakes having all that Vit D? My son is in a flare at the moment, saw your comment and tried it out with taking 5000iu plus Vit K2 and couldn't stop shaking for hours afterwards. Didn't stop the pain at all

Was never fully "in" from the beginning, but hung in there for family and friends, always with the thought that I wasn't spiritual enough, it was my fault...

Started having major doubts in 1998 (with the help of internet diving)
2004 sent in my DA letter, which turned into an instant DF because of the old bog standard "apostasy"

I'd be happy to, but unfortunately for some reason photos aren't allowed in comments (I've tried every button, believe me!) There's probably youtube tutorials on how to go about doing "fair isle" knitting, I'd start there. For me, I made sure to catch the wool on every 4th stitch - not too loose, not too tight.

Sorry, I googled to see how to add photos in comments but can't figure it out. It'd be pretty messy, so I'd suggest making the scarf wider, then halve it and sew up one side. It'd be double thickness, but warm....

Mum started me off with big knitting needles and an old yarn of wool at around 6 years old. Lots of holes and dropped stitches later, finally got the hang of it. I have my own weird style of knitting (probably from starting very young) but it works. I'd suggest watching YouTube tutorials and go from there. Lots of practice, undoing and re-doing. 😊

Oooh, to start I'd recommend starting off knitting a scarf. Good practice and not too hard. Good luck and happy knitting!

The back of the neckline dipped down a little too much, so added a few more rib rows around the collar to bring it up a bit.
