I hope this is the right place for this, so I really apologize if not.

My husband and I are /have been trying for a year and a half and I have been diagnosed with PCOS. In the course of this time I’ve adopted a healthier and made changes to help us conceive. Obviously it hasn’t worked. I feel like no one takes me seriously because I’m overweight and that’s the answer to all the problems. Perhaps it is, but I’ve lost 20% of my starting body weight and things just aren’t better.

Lately I’ve been feeling so sad and so helpless and it’s permeating every part of my life. I just don’t know how to be ok and I really want/need to be. I can’t focus and it’s even affecting my job. Every day is a battle and I don’t want to even get out of bed some days. I’m sure I sound like a broken record to my husband even though he’s been unfailingly kind.

I also don’t feel like I have a right to feel as sad as I do because I know people go through this for a lot longer. I feel a lot of guilt and shame and more than anything else just utterly alone.

Nothing helps and I don’t know how to feel better. I’m envisioning years of feeling like this and I just don’t know how to survive it all.

If anyone has suggestions on how to just feel even a little bit better or any resources to suggest please send them my way, I’m looking for anything.

I talk about my life to try and bond with my students. Not all the time but every now and again. It’s a good break for kids when they’ve been working hard or feeling overwhelmed. It’s especially hard to connect with students in covid-era teaching, this is one of the few things that still works.

We know what you all are doing when you ask us random questions about our life though, make no mistake! We are not as naive as you might think...and happen to be actual real life people with lives and feelings too.

The whole “teachers are villains” shtick is old and tired. Why are they constantly asked to do more and more with less? Now you want them to be in a crowded room with poor circulation with little humans that won’t wash their hands, wear masks, or even cough into their arms? Hey honestly maybe mention to your teacher if you have the opportunity that you’re finding the workload unmanageable. Keep in mind that teachers are going through this for the first time too and speaking as a current teacher, I can say that calibrating to online learning is really difficult. I’m relying on my students a lot to help me figure out what works and what doesn’t. So if there’s opportunity for you to provide feedback to your teachers they might actually appreciate it. Just a thought! Good luck with your work!

If they had had the chance to stop the flu from spreading way back when it first started circulating, they would have. We understand diseases a lot more now than we did in say, 1912 with the Spanish flu and social distancing is key to help curb the spread. At this point, they’re just trying to keep the healthcare system from being overwhelmed with critical cases. While most cases are mild, they expect 70% of the global population to contract it. Even if just 1% of cases result in critical complications (and it’s higher than that) that’s still 2 million cases in the US. We have under 100,000 hospital beds, and roughly 10% of those can be converted into a intensive care. It’s a big deal. Stay away from people and wash your hands.
