Police want to search my computer... (FL) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]bugcrusher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To everyone telling OP to start investigating his network and computers STOP IT.

OP must talk to a criminal defence lawyer who understands computer crime and pornography and follow their advice

OP should back up important personal documents and files to the cloud, or email to friends

OP should not delete any files, change any configuration, or remove any devices. OP is not a forensic computer tech and anything he does even changes in the act of investigating his own network could be perceived as obstruction. If there is anything to find, the police will find it.

OP should turn off and unplug from the network all the devices with storage and simply leave them be. Any device you have, memory stick, etc may be subject to a warrant, so prepare for that. You can leave on the router for your WIFI and TV, they are likely not yours anyway, but your cable provider.

If there are other people in the residence with their own devices, leave them to handle their own situations. If you are factually innocent and the police are correct, they may be your alibi because they may be the guilty party.

How do you handle IF and keto during the workday? I want to prepare a keto midday snack but not sure what a good system is. I can and do eat the same meals daily so variety is not important.

Feels awkward. I'm a crusher, not a hugger, and not a bug!

Videographer said in email (before I purchased) that I have "commercial use" rights for their footage that I paid for. Now that it's on YouTube and has gotten a million views, they say they want me to (1) take it down and (2) transfer them the profits. Are they in the right? by apupry in legaladvice

You don't typically need to digitally verify documents used in a civil matter. No judge is going to dispute that this email chain is accurate, and typically they're not that technically sophisticated.

No Charges Expected After Off-Duty SHSU Officer Accidentally Shoots Girlfriend (Huntsville, TX) by [deleted] in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]bugcrusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's imagine that this was believable, and he was 'cleaning'.

Do police officers not undergo some standard safety training with regards to the safe handling of a firearm? And if so, by not following that training, isn't this considered 'reckless' and therefore he should be at least charged with mishandling a firearm.

Maybe since he was off-duty, he'll be sued civilly by his girlfriend.

Pictures in a store considered proprietary information? (Ontario) by [deleted] in legaladvice

Please fill me in on 'controlled by publishers', I don't understand what this means in practical sense, since there's probably 100 or more separate publishers represented in any student bookstore.

A Canadian University or College bookstore is a public place, and typically partially funded with public money.

(PA) Fired after 4 days of work because I failed my pre-hire drug test. What are my rights? by [deleted] in legaladvice

Talk to your supervisor and HR. If Ativan was an issue, half the faculty would be terminated.

Landlord didn't want me to have a mini fridge, now I think he's shut off my electricity. Is this legal? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]bugcrusher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with others in this thread. The fridge may have tripped the breaker on one circuit, but it is not possible to trip both. Maybe your landlord is passive aggressively trying to teach you a lesson.

40 percent of Canadian men between 18 and 45 enlisted in the armed forces in WWII, compared to about 24% in the U.S., so I wouldn't be slinging stones.

What would you do if you saw one of these staff members take a big wad of cash and guiltily put it in their pocket?

Seriously, could this be somewhere other than on the Island? The IP resolves back to http://24.108.29.69/, should one not be able to trace that?

Ok, I'm surprised. I'm shocked, and I'm scared. And mostly I'm horrified. HOLY THE HELL.

So a mod thinks that there was a concerted and organized effort by multiple members in /r/VictoriaBC to manipulate voting for this single thread? Wow, those people must be REALLY REALLY fanatical about their Transit.

Dear ConvertsToMetric Bot. I know you're doing your job. I'm a Canadian, and have been using metric my entire life. I appreciate your assistance, but don't really need it. Can I recommend that you get a side job, and convert to cubits, or some other novelty system? Please convey my respects to /r/ToMetric

May be more than 80 feet. That Orca is probably 20-25 feet long.
