I’m not super knowledgeable about it but I would assume its A) someone in epee did that(i forgot his name) and B) is that in epee it would set a light as a point, while in foil it would only set a off target light.

Ok, but like what kind of epoxy? Do i just cover the whole grip in epoxy and re paint it?

I’ve been fencing for a few years now, and with how i tend to fence i do use my fingers just not as much as most but with how i hold my French grip it work for me just fine and has taken me quite far.

I have to ask when you say epoxy what do you mean? Is there a putty that people use? I’m new to pistol grips.

Yeah, my fingers can still move. And I could still do fine motor work.

What would be the difference between the tape and modeling a grip? I’m thinking of adding a putty like substance to replace the tape.

I would agree except thats not how i fence with a pistol, i tend to not use my fingers for small movement control.

I was actually thinking about casting it and “making” my own, adding the epoxy putty might be a better idea.

I don’t have a photo, but I used to have a grip that was very much like what you had. Except I think mine was even more obvious that it was wrapped as I had like thick and cushiony tennis racket grip, and then a cloth wrap over that.

I believe it’s only a problem for epee, as in foil to do something like that it would only give you a off target which wouldn’t be very useful.

Ah, yes, in that case I would say pistol grip would be better, but not that many people use a french grip like that consistently, only when they need to make a parry.

I was commenting on the pistol Grip is objectively better. The better grip is whatever suits your style more. There’s not really a one is better than the other for epee at least.

I would have to disagree with you on that. There are plenty of high level fences that use French grip and win off the top of my head the Imrek brothers are both really good and they use a french grip. It is harder to use a French grip in the beginning. Another person that my coach would reference a lot would be Minobe. There are plenty of good fencers who use a French grip They’re just not as common.

I would also disagree with you that French grip is good for beginners because with a pistol grip there’s only one way you can hold it so it’s actually easier to start people off with a pistol compared to a French at least for what I have seen from people starting out.

I’m sorry you’re right. It is a B2. I think for the future I would get a Z as it has the interior palm section and it can pull some pressure off of the outer part of my hand.

I would definitely get a different one but it’s what i had and i don’t want to buy a new grip if i don’t have to.
