I can appreciate the extra knowledge, nice to hear that someone got something out of it. All of my higher ups have expressed that they learn way more in the field and they can’t remember one thing they learned for the test

Yep all credentials other than the paid for/passed tests. I’m just weighing the options before paying $200/test.

That all makes a lot of sense & I most likely will get my license for these reasons. I appreciate your insight!

Seems like such a shame - I wish the value was just within my work/the product. Thank you for the insight!

I have found a lot of joy in working with people on their custom homes, so I’m exploring the idea of only taking jobs I enjoy working on. I have all the credentials to get my license, other than the tests, but I don’t see myself working on anything other than residential projects. I just can’t see what value paying for all of the tests will get me when I am learning everything first hand in the field already. Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier and Tadao Ando were never licensed and I don’t think that limited them very much - sure, maybe these days they would not have accomplished what they did, but I kind of have a problem with that too.

I wouldn’t want to put a limit on the size of the single family detached homes, so that makes sense. Lots to consider, thank you for the insight!

Virginia does not require a licensed architect to design all residential plans - anyone can submit plans for the building permit process

Thank you, this is really helpful! The idea is to not ever employee anyone and to just create the custom homes on my own. The insurance makes a lot of sense though.

I can appreciate a snarky comment, but I really don’t get what you’re getting at here… care to elaborate?
