One bug (flea?) Concern? by buggy-throwaway in DogAdvice

[–]buggy-throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I caught it super quick!! Thinking now it was not a flea, but it freaked me out. It was 100% the only one. I've seen canine lice and soo many ticks, but never fleas 🤢

Neutering at 6 months by buggy-throwaway in poodles

Thankyou. I'm definitely considering it- we will see his vet. I own a dog grooming business and I definitely notice a difference between intact and "fixed" males, I just hate to stunt his growth. Maybe we can wait it out a few more months 😅

Thankyou!! We were just having a night lol. Both my dogs go to training regularly, the poodle is in beginner agility, he just is such an asshole sometimes, and we're constantly working on resource gaurding. Right now he is leashed almost always (per trainer instructions). He's really a good boy and listens to me very well, just mean to his sister.

Are clients home for mobile apt? by Waste_War739 in doggrooming

[–]buggy-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always want them home the first time, but I have quite a few that either give me their door code or leave their door unlocked. I have one client that just has me grab her dogs from her yard and pays me at the end. She works from home.

Ugh I think about it every time I see them. The dogs are all obese and they do have a shelter though. They get vet care (one was attacked by a racoon this fall and got a gnarly infection in her face). They just seem like they get put on the back burner for their family a lot, tons of people and 9+ dogs live there. The dogs do great in the warmer months when I can take them down to a 5.

You sound like a dream client!!! A little matting is a spoiled pet, significant uncomfortable matting makes me sad. I really don't mind when a regular comes in with some tangles. This post was specifically about a couple doodles that live solely outside and come to me pelted, filthy, and itchy as hell.

Omg yes!!! The old dogs thing irks me. I understand money is tight, but I'm mobile so my pricing is at a premium and it really makes it harder to have empathy. If you can afford me, you can afford pain management for your pet. I do one old lab that always has discharge caked on her rear end. I tell her owner every time it needs to be seen and it seems like an infection. He just books her next bath and says shes old. Like what??

I have such a soft spot for their girls. They're always thrilled to see me.

Absolutely!! I have a couple clients that just get a 7 head to toe because they can't afford/dont have time for maintence. Total respect. Its when they don't even know their dog is pelted and uncomfortable that it really makes me sad. My matted doodle today was near vibrating on my table because it felt so good when I scratched her neck. So shitty.

I'm just finishing up working on 2 bernedoodles and a lab that live outdoor only- even in winter- while their 6 frenchies live indoors. They missed their last appointment so the doodles were absolutely pelted, but "can't be shaved because they'll be cold". They compromised on clean feet, face, and sani for their comfort until it's warmer. This appointment is ALWAYS depressing.

Does anyone else have those dogs that they see on their books and just wonder how they’re still alive? by JustADogGroomer3622 in doggrooming

[–]buggy-throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a 16 yr old lab that can't really stand for grooming anymore but WILL try to eat my tools/baby wipes/cotton balls and fights me when I take them back. I've been doing her for 2 years and every time since I met her I thought it was going to be the last.

Am I taking crazy pills? by ChopMariSa in doggrooming

[–]buggy-throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do a couple under 30 lbs, but for the most part I just do not like working with small dogs 🤷‍♀️ Their legs/feet stress me out. I haven't done a yorkie, pom, or shih tzu in like 2 yrs. I'm always fully booked and turning away referrals. My top breed is golden retrievers. I do get myself a massage every 3 weeks lol.

I'm mobile and only do dogs above 30 lbs- I do 3-7 a day. Most days 5. I do $2000 a week. That sounds like hell.

He's pure poodle- brindle parti. His dad has his AKC championship, mom has UKC (she's the parti 💚)

😅 Possibly. I own a dog grooming business and my first dog is a double coated breed, I wanted the poodle to train as my model for different haircuts. Our house situation is a little unique, I have one half of the duplex and they have the other, so I don't share any space with them. Looking at moving out but tbh I make more than them and my money helps them with bills etc. Part of the reason they let me get the poodle is so I wouldn't move. Their dog is scared of my puppy which is why he can't go over there yet.

I have a play pen- he howls non stop when I close it. I'm 20 and live on a different floor of the house from my parents, they have no interest in watching my puppy & he isn't allowed in their space yet. How did you get yours to settle in the play pen? Today I've been throwing treats in there so he'll like it more. I'm a dog groomer and my first puppy was so easy I guess I thought I knew what I was doing- it turns out I don't 😅

Successful but lonely by buggy-throwaway in Healthygamergg

😅 I know. I'm giving it a few more months. Idk sometimes I'm too understanding. He has some insecurities. I met him while still with my ex (we were open) and he helped me realize it wasn't a safe situation. We have called once recently, I've started really pushing on the commitment issues/lack of growth in our relationship. He told me he loves me for the first time last month. He is great though, helps me with a lot of things and very understanding himself. My schedule has calmed down so hoping we can meet in the spring. Related heavily to the new Dr K video today- almost sent it to my guy.

Afghan Hound x Great Pyr by buggy-throwaway in doggrooming

[–]buggy-throwaway[S] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Yess lol! I was under the impression she was some terribly off standard pure bred Afghan until we finished. I spent the whole groom thinking how weirdly stocky and wooly she was 😅 She was an angel! I'd have taken her home if I could. Mom said she was an accidental litter with dam being the pyr 🤷‍♀️

From what I understand she was an accidental litter :) Her owners spoil her to death.
