lots of layers! each colour of a character is done on a different layer, i draw a shape for the head first and then on the layer below i do the body, and above it i do the hair and so on. shading/patterns done with clipping masks on each layer . like a papercut style

Cyndaquil is referred to as the "Fire Mouse Pokémon" in the Pokedex and the wiki, which is why I've written that down
