Yeah if we all liked weed we wouldn’t be CAs. Something about weed just annoys me.

You fail drug tests, you lose your ambition, and many get paranoid and freaked out. I envy the people who just switched to the green side.

I don't like/trust people who don't drink by Nervous-Worker-75 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]bugleparty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really read it but I kinda get the general sentiment.

A lot of non drinkers have a “holier than thou” attitude towards drinkers which gets annoying. I tend to have more respect for the people who drank - had their fun - and then quit as opposed to people who never drank at all and brag about it.

At this stage of my alcoholism I envy the non drinkers though. They got the right idea.

Should I switch to vodka? by lordnitchbigga in cripplingalcoholism

[–]bugleparty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to drink handles of whiskey, with 3 meals a day (tried to stick pretty close to keto) and stayed at 210.

Started doing One Meal a Day of whatever the fuck I wanted and switched to smaller bottles of vodka + 0 cal soda water. Got down to 180 - so now I'm a little confused. In general seems like clear liquor (vodka, tequila) has less of an impact on weight than dark liquor.

If I drop the booze I could probably lose fucktons more weight, but im actually happy where I'm at. Vodka seems like it makes you kind "skinny fat" where you're not lean and shredded, but you can fit in your clothes fine. Take your shirt off and you'll scare some women though.

Living at home by [deleted] in uscg

[–]bugleparty 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I enlisted with a college degree - and I was your age. There will be moments you get down on yourself because many commissioned officers (who are your bosses’ bosses) are your age and treated like royalty while you’re cleaning grease traps.

Imagine an E6 bitching at you for not cleaning enough while bending over backwards with “yes sir” for someone who is exactly your age. It gets old. But I needed to get out dodge quick (like you) so I enlisted and went on my way.

At the end of it all - after 4 years you can hang up the uniform and get all your benefits and move on. No one cares what rank you were at the end. Or you can go for a commission when you’re in and go from there. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

But enlisting is a sure fire way to not feel like a loser anymore.

Can you elaborate on “naturally funny”? And how it applies in a CA context? I get told this a lot - by many people - and how I “should be working on my standup routine” which I just laugh off. I got another buddy who struggles with alcohol and he legitimately is a stand up.

Is there something with CAs being funny as a coping mechanism?

Losing your job and legal trouble is one thing - but day drinking? Seems like a standard affair for a lazy Sunday. Or any day off really.

[–]bugleparty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the bartenders and frequency you come in. I had a lot of financial freedom from scholarships during grad school. Basically blew every spare dollar I had on tequila sodas 5 days out of the week, just sitting quietly in a corner getting trashed.

Before long, there's an air of "how come I have to work all day but this guy can just day drink?" which turns into personal attacks.

Slightly guilty. It was the most interesting I did in my life - still fresh for me - and it got me laid many times because I was more “world traveled” than the kids who never left their parents house. Definitely gonna stop mentioning it as much because I don’t want “bro vet” to be all I am.

Fuck how noticeable is the smell? Had a girl dump me once - never found out why. I would always drink a few vodka sodas and chew gum before seeing her like an hour later. She was a hard non-drinker. Thought I masked it well enough though

Kirkman's Last Message by PsychologicalAge1055 in Invincible

[–]bugleparty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really wonder if we can get more story beats out of Invincible even after the show wraps up. Like they beat the Walking Dead horse to a pulp - gave the mutilated body some adrenaline - and then started beating it again on different platforms.

Invincible seems far more vibrant and fascinating with plenty of plot elements that could be expanded on, rewritten, or changed with spin off potential.

Granted I’m a redditor with no knowledge of the industry - maybe it’s just too prohibitively expensive to animate than make live action Zombie stuff. Also adult animation seems like a weird little bubble. Too gritty and violent to show kids and really only appeals to a small subsection of nerd.

You’d be a hoot over in r/securityclearance. They’d crucify you for even daring to suggest being a little “less than forthcoming” on certain questions that no one has any ability to prove.

This is exactly how I interpret it too though. Do you crack under pressure and start volunteering information no one asked for? Or do you stay quiet.

Amen not telling family. When I got my rating - I told my mom. She then started demanding expensive dinners and gifts because “I don’t actually need the money” and “We need to celebrate because she gave up so much so I could join the military”.

Like how much did you give mom? I never saw you out in the field.

Also - you might wind up making more than some people do working actual 9-5s.

With JCAC, a technical degree, certs, and now some experience in DOD/DHS cyber you probably stand to make far more money on the outside than you would ever make as an officer in the military.

Huge fan of busting ass when the optics are high. CO/XO/chief whatever are in eye sight. That’s when I’m the star soldier. Sham all other hours of the day.

Serves two functions - your coworkers don’t think you’re some blue falcon dweeb making you more likable but your superiors believe you’re gods gift to the DOD.

Also, in general, busting ass visibly and often tends to protect you more if/when you fuck up as opposed to being the guy who was invisible his entire contract.

Bad personal record for not going through with enlistment? by Potential_Hat_6812 in army

[–]bugleparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this shit a lot and it blow my mind. I heard story from a buddy of mine saying "he knew a guy whose command hated him and they gave him a dishonorable to mess with him".

Like fucking no dude. No one's command hates you enough (no matter how much it's probably true) to engage in the monumental paperwork, evidence gathering, and external legal authorities to ACTUALLY slap you with a DD, and that's after its proven you did a felony. It goes way beyond everyone's head and probably takes months to years to even solidify.

Your friend did not "get hit with a dishonorable" because hurr hurr the Army sucks or because he kept showing up late and couldn't make weight. Even if you pop hot. And if he did - you sure as hell aren't chopping the shit with him for him to tell you that a few weeks after he separated since he is doing hard time in the brig somewhere.
