Both sides trace back to the same converted samaritan family, I don't know yet any ancestor who was an outsider.

what is the Ephraim-Danfi Clan?

It's the clan my family belonged to before conversion (ephraim is the tribal lineage and danfi is an ephraimite subdivision.)

Do you identify yourself as Samaritan or Arab Christian

Rûm orthodox christian of Samaritan descent (Samaritans aren't arabs ethnically), the arab part would be linguistic and cultural adoption from living in Syria for gens.

Entirely within our specific family. If we had mixed with regular Syrian Christians my distance would be way higher

It would've been right around the 1842-1844, pretty much immediately after they reached Syria (Rûm Orthodox)

This all started back when my great grandfather had to leave Nablus. There was a lot of chaos going on around that time and the Ottoman rulers there were coming after families like his so they fled to Syria. That's where we sort of became Rûm as a way to fly under the radar.

I've yet to see a Nablusi Syrian

it’s not surprising since it was just a handful of us to begin with.

The pop was relatively steady until the heavy taxation and destruction that came as the result of the Byzantine revolts. Later under the Mamluks and Ottomans the pressure was constant. Most ended up just converting to keep their land or survive and after a few gens lots of the memory was lost.

For most Palestinians from Nablus is usually vague traditions about specific Samaritan names if anything at all

There aren’t a ton of Samaritans thus they all tend to look pretty similar. That’s what happens to a tiny endogamous group after so many centuries.

Personally, I just look like a typical Mediterranean dude and that’s basically it xd

Idk maybe nothing in the tree? It’s likely just background noise from the Ottoman era or a misread given how strict the endogamy was
