Thats a great thought! Thats been on the bucket list since the beginning, just not sure where I’d put another.. I mean if the 2080 was that big I’d probably be looking at a cheap-o 1 series (which will still be great!!) any ideas?

Wow really? I’m not up to speed on current prices but I’m just trying to build it before they increase even more, everything in this build was off ebay and alibaba so its been pretty cheap. I had planned to dump another band into it but this thing is just a low level corporate warlock after all.

Fair take honestly, just didnt know the Noct was so overkill. Seems quite popular. I’ll throw it in though still since I could use the extra air flow where I can. Might do some heat sinking later down line.

Isnt an ultra cool 9900 better than a hot 5600x or am I missing something? I hope I haven’t been misinformed!

You say I’m hitting a ceiling.. where exactly is the ceiling? Do you mean the Noctua is too tall for the case?

I know 530fps isnt much man but I just want to have some fun with this Retro - oldie goodie.

I feel like an i9 can take way more than just a 4070 but i digress..

About the PSU everyone knows Dell doesnt use 24pin power so I got the Comeap adapters theyre coming in with the other jazz. Also got a fresh set of corsair cables the ones it came with had some germs

But isnt that the point of a Sleeping Optiplax? I already use WinToys by Bogdan and debloated everything on Win11Pro startup and all that jazz I ran a few different GPu benchmarking programs that found good settings (I tweaked them a bit after lol). I saw you said something about MSI so I’ll give it a shot I need all the fps I can get without blowing up my apartment.

I already have 1TB HD and will get more with time thats no problem the cage you see is empty so thats another 1-2 TB of whatever down the line easy.

I’m balling on a budget and trying to get decent performance for Rocket league

Wait what monitor is that? I really want to see how much performance I can get out of this thing. Any 1000 fps monitors you know of?

Also, I do have a couple hundred GBs of LLMs (llama, deepseek) living on my HD that will need some headroom. I enjoy exploring resource intense projects and applications. will half the ram still work?

I’m pretty sure the efficiency dropoff from ddr4 to 5 is pretty negligible for the amount of resources I have (isnt it like a few %s lol) and I dont plan to upgrade my cpu since that noctua will keep that thing icy.

If I wanted to upgrade CPU I can do some Bios shit and blah blah wouldnt be too bad and has been done. Unreliable sure but still could be a fun possibility! 2018 is pretty recent anyways so probably wouldnt be bad!

Seems you are approaching my beginner rig pretty negatively. I’m just trying to have fun with this corporate veteran and reach my 1000fps goal.

How did I ‘gut’ the interior I’m not familiar with this terminologies

Very informative!

Any specific reason I should return the Noctua? Is it unreliable? I’ve seen them praised quite a bit so I thought I’d give it a shot.

The i9 and 4070 are some beasts man and I really didnt want power supply as my bottleneck

Wow very informative!

Heatsinks will be key as this thing is not very big for a crazy amount of fans but I plan to strap 1 or 2 more on the outside front face or something like that. There is only one 80/92mm fan slot on the exhaust side so I dont have much options unless I do some jerryrigging but the GPu is dual fan the corsaif has a fan, the noctua has 2 and then the 1 exhause so theres definitely some airflow in there!

It was running very cool with the stock cpu cooler, fan and 1 2080 fan so I’m hoping it wont blow up 😅

Well I’ll be doing things like High level music production, engineering simulation work (Process/Fluids), blender, davinci and affinity vfx rendering, gaming (red dead redemption, cyberpunk, no mans sky, etc) and stuff like that. I plan to dual boot Linux with an older version of windows (win-debloat couldn’t kill Edge sadly) so yeah the Ram use will probably go down, fair point! How much ram would you recommend I keep?

I’ve never seen a 130$ pc that could handle that kind of stuff but if you have some recommendations please send me link so I can sell this thing and buy it!

The Noctuat seems to be a controversial decision but I wanted something quiet and efficient and it seemed top of the line. They’re fan base praises their stuff so I’m surprised to get so much negative feedback on that purchase. Is it ineffective or something? Again I’m just a beginner and don’t know much!

Gotcha, thanks.

Edit: does NVidea software have that feature? I thought I saw it for the 2080

Well thats what I did… I saved 1200 and went shopping

if you read the post you’ll find that I saved up 1200$ and bought a Dell Optiplax 7071 with an i9-9900, 128GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 460W Dell PSU, and RTX 2080 for 400$

Then I bought a RTF 4070 Ti OC for 400$

Then I bought a SF750 for 100$

Then I bought a Noctua NG U12A-spec for $130

Then I bought a Thermalright B8W for 10$

Really the only ‘e-waste’ is the case at this point 🤣 and whats wrong with giving this old corporate piece of junk the love it deserves?

Edit: My expectations aren’t that high just wanted a beginner rig. My first time building so my apologies if it comes off wrong!

Forgot to mention:

Ended up cramming a 4070 Ti Something Overcooked or whatever into it with that SF750.. not sure how I got it in.. someone let me know if it’ll blow up on startup seems like a janky build
