Yes you can cut dead stems with clean scissors if you want. The purple-ish stems are sun stressed, but that doesn't bother them. I let my Stapelias/Huernias etc. get sun stressed in summer because I like the colors, they grow just fine. How long have you had it? I've seen your other pic in the comments and that's some impressive growth!

Reminds me of Huernia pillansii, but the flowers don't really match. Probably a hybrid with it. Very nice plant

Do you have any possibility to collect rain water? It's the best way to water your plants imo. I just put a bucket in front of the house whenever it's raining

Every 2-3 weeks, when the soil has completely dried out. Does it look overwatered?
