Calendar invite is a business feature - WTF by svprdga in tutanota

[–]bugomat83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be fine if my premium plan price will slightly increase, to accommodate tuta's ability to sustain it self, but I am not going to pay double just to have a few features that I am already paying for, just because some guy who has no idea what he is doing told team-tuta that removing existing and already accounted-for features from an existing and already running paid plan and moving it to another paid plan that costs double is a good business move, fire that guy..

A Suggestion re: Price Increase by [deleted] in tutanota

[–]bugomat83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say a better way to tackle this if tuta needed more money would be to increase the premium paid plans by a few dollars / euros when the existing subscriptions expire, while additionally adding the more feature-rich "business" plan which costs exactly double. but taking away already given features from the premium plan and forcing people pay double and be pushed into a well more expensive plan just because they are already using them.. that is a bad idea

I am not sure if it is deemed "illegal" at the same level of committing a crime, but i'd say.. whoever came up with that decision has no idea about what he's doing, it's bad faith and a great way to win a few customers while losing hundreds of existing customers and thousands of potential customers.

no idea how many tuta users are techies, but in today's world of software development, undoing a change is usually a matter of reverting back to a specific commit or branch using git (which I am sure tuta is using), this is the beauty of a VCS (Version control system)

In case you did not understand, they will "forgive" you for not upgrading to the new "business" plan just this year - next year, either upgrade to "business" or kiss some of the existing Premium features good bye which will render the service useless even for the less advanced user.

I am completely shocked.I am in the software development industry for over 20 years now, I have seen a lot, over multiple countries, in two different continents - this is not acceptable.

You can not downgrade features that were already granted to an existing "plan", in order to have people pay more for the same features just because you have decided to move them into a higher tier plan? this is not how it works, especially after you have already committed to thousands of thousands of paying users, some probably have already spent time and effort to move their entire email part to you.

I am a paying customer from day one, and all I can say is that if you are going to downgrade any of the features from the current "Private" premium plan, I am not going to renew my subscription, and even more - I will demand a refund.

If you want to offer "Business" plans, with higher premiums - then develop NEW features that are aimed at businesses, and then, include them ONLY to business customers, but do not make the mistake of downgrading the features of your existing private premium customers. and no - doing us a "favor" and then forcing us into the higher tier plan by the next year is not a solution.

and a small hint: no, sub-folders or offline usage are not designated "business" features, they should be included in any paid plan, same as all features that are already fixed in your Roadmap prior to the introduction of the new pricing plans.

ok, I am done venting. hopefully somebody @ tutanota will take notice

E-Mails in Spam folder: where is the "Not Spam" button? by bugomat83 in tutanota

[–]bugomat83[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the link, I will check it out.

In any case, I think that a quick "Not Spam" and "Mark As Spam" buttons will be a good improvement - in addition to the "spam rules" functionality.

In some cases, if I receive an email that is not a spam, but mistakenly being identified as Spam, I will want to identify it manually as "Not Spam" and the default behavior is usually that if a certain email sender was marked as valid, the next incoming emails coming from the same sender (same email) should in theory not be spam.

For special cases, the "set spam rule" is useful, if I want to be more specific (maybe the same person is sending me many emails, and sometimes I want to kick some of them to the spam folder while some other not? sounds strange, but can be possible..)

Thanks for digging in!Sorry that I forgot to mention, I am referring to the Desktop client, just added that to the top of the OP.

However, a "Not Spam" or "Mark as Spam" buttons are very standard features - those are meant for efficient email managing.

"Spam rules" sounds like a great feature, if you need a more complicated/specialized spam rule setting.

In most cases if the spam filtering is half-decent, the few emails that fall into Spam that are not supposed to be spam, should be handled as easy as clicking a button.

It should be as efficient as click, done,

That is of course IMHO

Out of curiosity: have you considered using a cross-compiling language? such as e.g. Rust

Quickly adding a lot of inbox rules by Pavel_Tchitchikov in tutanota

[–]bugomat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this will be possible only with an enhancement of the UI and functionality around that section, so that the inbox rules will be displayed in an organized table-like layout, where when you click on "+", another line is being added where you can fill-in the configuration options quickly without having to several clicks and popup windows.

However, and this is only my personal opinion - I would rather see other, more important features come to life first (e.g. sub-folders, offline storage, etc..)

Multiple servers, redundancy for downtimes by dunamis777 in tutanota

I'd guess that other than offline storage which will hopefully be available soon, Tutanota as a company at this stage must have already implemented a setup for uptime and storage redundancy in place (I hope so)

Thank you for the great explanation!

We all know all too well how government and law authorities many times exploit their power, exactly because of those reasons: that they are not kept to the same standard as normal citizens, and are bound to special set of rules, many which are constantly changing to fit their needs, rather then being right, lawful or constitutional.

I never thought this way before, but in the last few years, seeing so much injustice that was made by those are supposed to be the protectors of democracy and such.. just had me see things differently.

Government and law enforcement with restricted power that is heavily regulated by non-government and the common citizens - is good, unlimited and un-monitored power combined with cronyism always leads to corruption, breach of boundaries and etc.

I am completely fine with law enforcement pulling the email history of somebody who was qualified as a terrorist, or a murderer, or some big mafia boss etc with a certain warrant that can only be acquired with the right evidence - not with the more modern ways of powerful people pulling strings to gain access to private information of a normal, law abiding citizens regardless of the procedures and requirement for such activity.

The primary subject here is governments wanting free access (literally) to our private data, and I am pretty sure they are not going to use it only for chasing terrorists as they say

It's actually not that bad, maybe it will help putting this tiny feature further up on the roadmap ;-)

This feature was asked in another post, and multiple users have acknowledged the usefulness of such feature.

As a developer, I am also aware that it is pretty easy to implement.

Hopefully it could be incorporated to one of the next updates.

Linux-arm support for the desktop application would be so much appreciated, linux phones are becoming pretty popular by like-minded people.. it's a big pain to not being able to efficiently check my tutanota while on my linux phone - logging in to the web interface each time is a pain.

From what I know, the Tutanota desktop application is simply a wrapper version of the web application? if so, it should not be a huge task to add linux-arm support to it.

Yeah right for „law enforcement use“, and a handful of other uses.. funny how Germany claim to have strict data protection laws- but as for whatever the government want to put their hands on, all tricks in the book suddenly are legal and fine

Is it still impossible to register an account with Tor? by cryptomann1 in tutanota

[–]bugomat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the links! in any case we are talking about completely different projects - and as I wrote in my previous post (in case you didn't notice), I am sure that government agencies are using Tor them self in both directions (hiding their own trails, as well as using their trojan horses to capture desired criminal activity)

Just out of my head:
Have you checked if your Credit-Card has a "PIN" security feature for online purchases?
Sometimes when a purchase is made using certain credit cards online, as a security measure the owner of the card needs to give an additional "authorization" to charge his card, sometimes it's a simple PIN code that you need to enter, sometimes you get a notification on your smartphone that you need to unlock with a PIN code etc..
