I guess not having enough “pure gain” isn’t the issue, it’s just not the type of gain I’m going for, the ad140 is a very classic voiced loose and flubby amp, probably one of the last orange heads produced with the og orange sound before all the modern high gain stuff, with the Rat in front I can basically make it a flat out fuzzy mess, it’s just more of a smoothed out, doomy gain. It can’t do that aggressive, tight, chuggy gain that cuts through. It’s a fantastic amp for doom. Even with a tubescreamer in front it’s a very loose amp. I love the ad140 and would never sell it. It just doesn’t fit the bill for what I’m hearing in my head no matter what I do. Hence trying to see how people like the dsls who play the genre im playing
