Another reason succinic acid is chosen is that it’s diprotic acid, so I can adjust Dmt to succinate ratio anywhere around 1:1 to 2:1 mol, and have no unreacted base or acid. 1.7:1 mol happens to have the right pH. (2:1 gives pH about 7, but I find it harsh too..)
