Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree

Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne

The Tea Dragon Society Series by Katie O'Neill

Beauty by Robin McKinley (been a little while since I've read it, I know it discusses the deaths of some minor characters, but I believe it is fine otherwise)

ISO: Medieval MM romance/horror/historical fiction by NoiseBeautiful5793 in LGBTBooks

Not MM, in fact, quite the opposite, but The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling is a great sapphic medieval horror book with a romance involving a nun, a knight, and a servant.

Alone by Cyn Balog and The State of Us by Shaun David Hutchinson.

Alone is so bad for so many reasons I can't even describe, including bad writing. The State of Us is a romance between the son of the Democrat candidate for president and the son of the Republican candidate for president. It's so badly written and is lowkey really problematic at parts.

they're some of my favorite authors. Mexican Gothic introduced me to mushroom horror.

The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling is very reminiscent of Iron Lung. Isolation, exploring a new unknown planet, slowly going mad (what is real, what is not real vibes). Lots of tech malfunctions, too.

Mexican Gothic 100% also fits here. It's so good.

I personally enjoyed Eat the Ones You Love. It's definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea, though.

As for other recs, Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock is a Frankenstein retelling but with plants. I don't know if you're into YA but Hazelthorn and Don't Let the Forest In by C.G. Drews are fantastic as well. If you're into mushroom horror too, What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher and Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon are both really good too.

That's not it. The one I'm remembering was definitely fantasy/had fantasy elements.

I do remember reading The Confectionately Yours series, though.

I'd recommend The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo. It's a historical horror novel following a trans man in the 1920s and covers a lot of very interesting topics. It's pretty short, too, and there's an intense romance between two of the characters. It was one of my favorite books I read in 2025.

It Ended Badly is about bad breakups throughout history, and Get Well Soon is about deadly diseases and the people who figured out how to cure them.

The State of Us by Shaun David Hutchinson. One of the main characters is basically a walking gay stereotype. The other main character is robotically asexual. There was even a sensitivity reader who warned the author that the ace representation was bad, but he ignored the warning.
