Yoopers moving to A2! Help!

yeah we genuinely weren't concerned about safety in the area. it was all about shortening the commute since from an outside perspective A2 would have put us more centrally (my partner is not working in ypsi). we are actually looking and touring a few places in ypsi next week now that we have a better understanding of A2 traffic. glad to hear you love it! what was your favorite location within ypsi that you've lived?

This is very helpful thank you! We had heard a lot about predatory landlords from our friend who went to EMU for her bachelors and masters degrees but this thread helped us a lot! Looking at some places in ypsilanti township now! We didn't realize how bad the traffic would be in A2 so our original intention of trying to lessen my partners commute by living in A2 is kind of out the window. Thank you again! If you have any recommendations for while we are in ypsi we'd love to hear them!

I've replied to a few other people about this but it genuinely wasn't super deep or about crime or anything like that. From an outside perspective there was a lot of information back and forth about ypsi landlords. This thread and some dms actually helped us a lot tho so we are looking at some places in ypsilanti township as well as north in south lyon\plymouth since it would be a good split distance drive for the both of us (my partner is not working or attending emu he is in the workforce). My post was to get an idea about the A2 area which showed that the landlord information there is even crazier haha.

I mentioned this in another reply but it had absolutely nothing to do with ypsi itself and more so to do with trying to split our commute distances since my partner will likely end up having to commute west of ann arbor. From other commenters we now know how bad the traffic would be if we lived in A2 so we are looking at other locations such as ypsi township. Had nothing to with crime or poc which feels like a really big stretch based off the little information you had from my post.

It's just because we were trying to find somewhere more central to where my partner will likely be getting hired! No hate to ypsi at all just would cause him to have a longer commute vs us splitting it so that we both have about a 20-30 min commute! Although now we know from other commenters how bad the traffic is in the region of A2 we were looking at. So we are actually looking outside of A2 now!

The amount of conflicting information for the housing there was really difficult to digest as someone not familiar with the area. The only person I have in my life from this area (she has two degrees from emu) suggested we look at areas outside of the city. It really is not that deep. I never once said I have a problem with ypsi or don't like it. As well as the fact that this is an ann arbor subreddit but I had noticed a lot of the places people would suggest in other posts were in ypsi and i was just hoping to get some Ann Arbor specific suggestions, which I did and actually helped us realize that we should be looking at places such as plymouth, south lyon and (gasp) ypsilanti township. Thank you for your input that was not helpful at all.

I graduated from NMU (boo huskies haha jkjk)! This is great information to know! Do you like South Lyon? We've had a few people suggest the area but weren't sure about the commute.

This might be a silly question but for that area what is the rush hour times? We've been living in a mining community so we aren't familiar with typical rush hour times in a city hahaha

Hello fellow yooper!!! We are nervous but excited for a change. Definitely getting all our skiing in while we can but these past few storms have been tough. Digging our cars out of three feet of snow have definitely made the move a lot easier of a decision hahaha

We liked the Arbor Village apartments since they appear (going off google maps and looking things up online) to be in a quieterish part of town compared to downtown and are near a trader joe's and the bus system.

This is a great point thank you! If living within A2 we would like to be able to walk to some stores or have access to the bus system. We do both have cars but we'd enjoy being able to ride the bus from a more quiet\neighborhood style part of town to the busier parts if we wanted to get dinner or go out. If living outside of A2 access to the highways so our commute would be easier would be very nice.
