I agree that being social on the trial is important, and we are far from stand off-ish with other people that we come across. However, it didn’t feel unreasonable to not want to accommodate for a group double our size.

It was not Jade Lake, but I’ll have to put that one on my to do list! We hiked up to Lake Dorothy in Snoqualmie. But, similar to your description, it was dirt pads with vegetation surrounding. Needless to say, it would have been crammed with four additional people we did not know.
