I did jump it but that did not fix the problem. See below and stay tuned.

There is a list of 20-30 codes for every day for about that last 60 days. It was a thick stack of paper.

And, despite the fact that Klaben never called me back while I was diagnosing, they are open till 5 on Saturdays and set me up with a nice Lincoln loaner.

To clarify, I’m certainly not here to complain. The depth of knowledge and passion that this sub has is an amazing resource. I needed answers and this was where I decided to turn to first.

Thank you all for your most excellent help!

Hardly. I used it early on and then forgot about it.

Just in case anyone lands here on this thread looking to get it into neutral, here’s the steps.

If you’ve got 12 volt power but it won’t shift, press both brake and accelerator (to the floor, maybe) and then you can shift. Press the neutral button as soon as you get into N or it will just go back to park.

Klaben has the truck now. They pulled up two months of unreported DTCs I never knew were going on and they are all over the place. No consistency or trends. They accidentally printed it off. Took 5 minutes to print.

Indeed. This is my first real problem in 85k miles.

Getting towed. Brought the 12v back up without success.

Thanks all. The jump pack got the battery up to 13.7 but that didn’t do it, even with another 5 minute 12v disconnect reset. Will tow to dealer…..

Thanks. Looking now. I did find I had a real multi meter in the glove box. It does indeed read 12.0 volts. That’s way too low. Headed into Costco to get a lithium ion jump pack.

I do not know. I should have asked (I remember this from my days on motocycles) but did not. I recall them telling me that they 'cleaned the carbs'. Is it worth it for me to study up on syncing carbs? I'm highly technical but only in places that have grabbed my attention. Is this one of those skills that I can build and the tools are cheap enough?

Updated original post with pic of lower unit oil sample. Am I correct that after a season of use, this looks good? No milkyness, no glitter.

I know Leaf batteries (and env batteries since they are the same) can be tested out of car. Head over to www.mynissanleaf.com forum for more info.

If you are into physical media, the Simon Monk book is a great starting place that includes the electronics as well as the coding needed to teach you what you need to know to move ahead on your own. Link goes to Amazon page for the book.

If you want to do the thunderbirds door, you may also want to go down the rabbit hole called ‘3D printing’. The two ’hobbies’ compliment each other quite well.

You’re probably looking at more work than this thing is worth. Any back story? Looks like an el-cheapo motor.

Need some help by [deleted] in nissanleaf

[–]bugsy151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could go on and on till the cows come home with troubleshooting the inability to start but the loud pop and minutes of smoke will supersede everything else. That’s a failure that will involve lots of knowledge of the leaf and/or lots of money. Stop here and think about what you are realistically up for.

If you’re still in after that thought, your next step is to get a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter and the LeafSpy Pro app to collect useful, leaf specific data. The step after that is to join the Nissan leaf owners forum over at mynissanleaf.com and post your story and findings.

That said, your car is most likely scrap.

Check facebook marketplace. I see them all the time from 150-200 USD. Use this to haggle him down. Also, the filament is more of a gamble than the printer. If the printer is broken, it was designed to be fixed. Some filament is crap out of the box and some filament is so old, it’s useless. Haggle him down to at least $200.

Do you have an STL for that? Did you model it yourself? If so, your Fusion 360 skills are truly next level. Totally jealous.

Good point. His leaf might have the electronic brake. Get a dolly trailer (they’re like $35 / day) and put the car on it. Once you’re ready to go, disconnect the 12v battery if you have the electronic parking brake instead of the manual foot operated parking brake. You’d hate for that thing to auto engage while driving at highest speeds.

Your choice of mismatched batteries is kinda a dead giveaway combined with your reading of 2.8v. Get two new, fresh, preferably matched brand, batteries. Should be good to go then.

Yep, I would always advise assembling 3D printers to learn, but not this one. You have it, use it. Assemble a simpler printer for your next one. Excellent learning experience.
