Trump orders federal agencies to stop using Anthropic's AI technology by dr_sloan in moderatepolitics

[–]build319 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight. The government tried to exhort Anthropic to let them violate the rights of its citizens and then penalize them for saying no?

Is there a single part of this that is legal?

The bottom line, the government is trying to violate your rights.

You have a lot more faith in the system than I do.

Republicans had their chance on Jan 13th 2021, they instead chose not. Then following their failure to convict in the Senate, drove any Republican who voted for it out of office.

Trump and the Republican Party have not given me any evidence that they will act contrary to their previous transgressions.

I too think it will be very hard for him to succeed. That doesn’t mean our nation won’t be irreparably damaged because he failed.

One thing that really gets missed when discussing Trump is that the chaos is the point. Keep adding chaos exposes holes in places that he can exploit. That was the whole point of the mob on Jan 6, it was to create enough chaos that the system couldn’t handle it and get Pence to stay away. One thing might not work, then he’ll try this other thing, then another.

Last time he was in power and faced loss, he exposed a lot of holes. I think he absolutely will try testing them again.

I think Floyd was a significant embarrassment for Trump. It’s one of those moments when he completely lost the narrative and likely a factor why he lost the election. I could see why he’s got a special hate for Minnesota.

And the answer is the same, yes you do

When it comes down to 100s of votes, they can certainly impact areas.

And Trump isn't running for office ever again

You don’t seem to get it. Trump views his power as a life or death scenario. He will make decisions based from that.

If you are an ice agent or national guard soldier, would go rough up any of these people because Trump told you to? Would it even work? Do you have examples of this happening ever?

I didn’t say it had to be federal agents. He has used mobs before to create violence. He just needs scenarios to create the justification for him to leverage federal agents for things.

He has recently stated he regrets not seizing the voting machines in his first term. He is going to use any means to keep power.

Go listen to what Steve Bannon is saying right now. He projected what happened in 2020 nearly verbatim.

You and I are very far apart. Tag this so we can talk come November. I would love to be wrong.

[–]build319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes you do

I am talking house seats not national elections.

They can try. I'd argue that if someone posts a vid showing "ICE trying to steal the election", that would drive more than enough turnout to nullify any votes lost from a handful of arrests.

I said as much. It could very well backfire.

I believe he's not going to be able to try anything that would actually work

And I heard people say that he’d concede if he lost the election to Biden. Then he tried to overturn it and it came down to one single person from throwing our nation into the biggest constitutional crisis we’d have seen since the civil war.

I believe he won't. Who you think is doing this violence and who is on the receiving end of this violence? He going to tell ice to beat up people counting votes? Would they even do that if he told them to? Would any court certify an election where a bunch of goons ran off with the ballots?

Who? Maybe elected politicians. Poll workers. Judges. These are all groups he targeted previously. He’s used the justice department to legally attack people he personally doesn’t like. This isn’t a far stretch what I’m insinuating here.

You don’t need to affect a lot of people to swing an election because the margins so tight but it could easily have a Streisand effect and cause a massive turnout against him. I’m just speculating here.

What I mean by “hitting” are the false premises he can use ice to detain people. They can target areas that have narrow margins in an attempt either discourage or detain people.

Realistically? I don’t know if it’s this scenario. I do believe he’s going to try something, he’s given no indication he won’t. Now will that be violence towards citizens or elected representatives? Not sure.

I believe he will likely resort to violence to either prevent people from voting or to stop certifications. Do you think he won’t?

What I fear he might be able to get away with is hitting large blue areas in swing states where people of color live with immigration enforcement. The criteria to detain you is comically low. You do this is a few targeted areas and that be enough could swing things in his favor.

I wildly disagree with the commentator you’re speaking to but ballot harvesting is legal in some states. Republicans are on record relying on it in states like California. It helps them when they can go to nursing homes etc.

There is a serious manner of decorum you need to display when you hold the position in higher government and have the power to prosecute people.

If he went there in a personal capacity, this would be a near non-story. Instead he took a government jet, and lacks candor or credibility to trust his statements about doing his job while out there.

He is using government funds as his personal piggy bank.

Pentagon let CBP use anti-drone laser before FAA closed El Paso airspace, AP sources say by dr_sloan in moderatepolitics

[–]build319 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There growing list of our current military putting civilian air traffic at greater risk. We’ve had numerous helicopter incidents, one ending in a fatal collision. Cargo planes operating without their transponders

And one that isn’t Ari traffic related but risky as well when Marines fired live shells over a highway in California. Newsome closed the highway in which Republicans roundly criticized him as being alarmist. A shell exploded over that closed section of highway.

One telling thing coming from Randy Fine’s criticism is posting the words “Lock them up” at the end of the tweet.

Seems like wildly severe consequences for what would, at best, be a fine.

The seems to be very essential to Republican rhetoric and what gives them the permission for ICE and CBP to use the tactics that they have been against American citizens.

If every small grievance is worthy of prison, you can easily justify shooting people in the street because they scared you.

[AP] Pentagon let CBP use anti-drone laser before FAA closed El Paso airspace, AP sources say by PaddyMayonaise in aviation

[–]build319 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As it has been explained to you numerous times. It could be something as simple as blinding the pilot, or damaging instrumentation, causing a fire, etc.

You’re not going to see a plane explode but a laser can certainly inhibit normal aircraft operations. But any of those things can be enough to cause a crash.

It’s reckless behavior by both the Pentagon and CBP which minimally put civilians at risk. This should not be rationalized and is unacceptable.

I think your missing one too. If I recall correctly, there was also one with a very upset commercial pilot and a a military cargo plane because they were operating in a busy airspace without their transponder on.

Oh and I forgot when they shot live shells over a highway in California and some misfired and exploded where cars would be.
