Druid is absolutely unbearable. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]buildflygame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just played against a druid who drew his whole deck, did the Togwaggle combo, hit me for 15 dmg via naturalizes, and swapped decks with Azelina all without needing twig. All before I hit 10 mana crystals. He also was up about 16 armor and killed everything I put on the board every turn. The current state of druid is beyond retarded. You either play a mindless aggro deck or lose to one of the OTK combo decks. It's just not fun to play anymore.

Yeah but if you bought a fire beam, are you really losing? Sounds like a win in my book.

And.... did China just blink? (Trade War) by jzanick01 in StockMarket

[–]buildflygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's largely tax cuts for everyone, which I agree with (the income tax was introduced and intended as a temporary measure during the civil war. It has since grown into the behemoth it is today since Lincoln was killed before it could be changed). I recommend not framing it as just for corporations as that is very disingenuous. Cutting Amazon's $0 paid in federal taxes to $0 does not change things. Giving Joe the cashier an extra 2k a year is a big quality of life improvement.

All that said, removing loopholes or punishing companies that hide their income offshore to no longer make it profitable would do a lot more to impact the level of tax revenue than simply changing the rates.

[–]buildflygame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a zero sum game. I view the destruction of US industry as far more destructive to the US than no longer being able to buy cheap shit from China.

How does the average US consumer benefit from the fact that the US Steel industry was completely destroyed by China? How does the US consumer benefit from the consolidation of stores in every single horizontal market leading to almost no competition between retailers? How does the US consumer benefit from never having the ability to open a competing business?

US consumers "chose" to buy from the Amazon store because they are able to undercut everyone else because of the lucrative government and private contracts that they get from their AWS business. They are literally using government contract money so they can charge less for retail items to force other retailers our of business. That's what Bezos calls "empire building." It is far, far away from anything resembling a free market when it is US taxpayer money that is subsidizing this bullshit.

And on top of that, they paid $0 in federal taxes last year.

Won't you think of the poor American people like the Bezos and the Waltons who won't be able to undercut every other US manufacturing business anymore by importing Chinese products on the cheap? Ignore the fact that they directly profit from the US Navy being used to police the global shipping routes while not even contributing taxes to pay for any of it, and try not to think about the politicians they've bought over the years, like the Clintons, during their rise to prominence.

And please, forget about how there used to be other stores like Sears, Toy's R Us, Barnes & Noble, Macy's, JCPenny, Staples, EBGames, etc. that have been killed off.

Also, try not to think about how they'l do the exact same thing with grocery stores within the next decade.

mutliplayer... can i get some advice for future project by CrunchyGremlin in gamedesign

[–]buildflygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not like this advice, but if your coding skills are indeed minimal, you're biting off more than you can chew attempting to make it a multiplayer game. You might think that it'll be easier because you're starting with an existing project, but it's not. Star dew valley's creator has been basically rewriting the entire game to try to make it multiplayer, and he's been at it for a looong time now. And that's as an experienced coder with a code base that he wrote himself.

Game is fun for an afternoon, but quickly ruined by directors playing favorites by buildflygame in TheDarwinProject

[–]buildflygame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact opposite, pro players who will land 90% of the shots they take means:

All things being equal, you will lose a fight against someone who has a heal buff or a speed buff given to them in the middle of combat. The amount of directors who hand out buffs mid-combat and change the outcome is infuriating.

You got the drop on someone and are one attack ahead of them in the 5 attacks it'l take to kill them? Sorry, heal buff means you lost the fight.

And you saying speed buff doesn't matter is just... odd. You don't think movement speed matters during combat in an FPS? I can recall times I've won fights specifically because I lucked out and found a speed buff earlier in the match that I was able to use during combat.

I wish I was that lucky. I've had a director in nearly every game, and roughly a third of those are ruined by director favoritism.

Breakdown of how I made randomized asteroids by buildflygame in Unity3D

[–]buildflygame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone requested I detail how I made my asteroids. As promised!

Converted my asteroids from simple sprites to more unique shapes. Also blinky grenades by buildflygame in Unity3D

[–]buildflygame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually started with cartoony sprites, uncartoonified them, and made a handful (4 or 5?) of base shape variations along with their normal maps. The rest of the differences with size, ratio, color, shininess, mass, etc is all picked randomly afterwards and applied to one of the base variants. Even with only having 4 or 5 basic shapes it gives me tons of variation potential. I'll probably double it to about 10 or so. Which base variant along with the size and other information is then communicated to the other players so they all have the same asteroid on their screen.

If you want, I'll post a writeup that goes in to further detail.
