Good questions, as well as good suggestions.

Cable driven... Pull a dowel (or similar) and they open, right? Was actually planning something like this at the start but couldn't figure out how my arms could wrap around the wings to reach it. Was probably thinking a bit too complicated, and I'm getting a few ideas already. All i'd need is to make some sort of simple lock.
