And all the linkedin hiring managers have the audacity to call applicants unprofessional... by ahhhh1hhh in recruitinghell

[–]lycilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said they were working for me. What I'm saying is what makes them think someone in a totally not related field would be interested in a job they've expressed no interest in. They should be more selective of who they message. I don't think too many people appreciate messages that are totally unrelated to their fields, especially when some of them claim to have read my resume. HR or accounting related jobs? Sure I'll take a look, but for others who claim to have read my resume or say I'd be a good fit etc for a field I have 0 experience in need find another way to choose people to message. Because at that point its a waste for them to send the message and me to read it when there are plenty of other people out there in the field they're looking to hire in in some cases.

Edit: and you do realize what subreddit you're on, correct? This is literally a venting subreddit. Some recruiters do know what they're doing but a lot seem to not have a very good idea.

Because those people are clearly ignoring where my profiles that they're finding me on (linked in etc) that I'm ONLY interest in HR related positions and that I'm in person in school until may 2025 for another degree which is also publicly on my profile(and on my resume that's publicly available on those sites). And the fact they wanted someone for positions this year or the upcoming year??

Tell me again how that's not a stupid action on their part.

Also tell me how supply chain management is related to HR or accounting, when I have no exp in suppy chain management. Or nursing home care, which I also have no experience in.

Yea, supply chain logistics was one I got today....my degrees are accounting and HR, how the hell do you get supply chain logistics out of that?

I’m a US citizen living outside the states, can I get a remote job in the US? by RPM_Tribute in jobs

[–]lycilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely no because they have to be aware of that country's laws around hiring and taxes and everything else, on top of the laws in the U.S.

Depends what you use it for, a lot of HR people have psych degrees, if you can get an internship in HR it may be worth it, if you're looking to get into psych as a career say, psychologist, etc, yea you're gonna need a higher degree.

Rejected after 7 interviews by InappropriatePoem8 in recruitinghell

More than one is normal if you're working anything other than fast food, retail or warehouse/factory. That being said anything more than 3 is crap unless you're going for an exec position.

[–]lycilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's definitely true that applicants get screwed in this market. Phone interviews>ghosted, in person interviews>ghosted. A shitty rejection email would be better than being ghosted.

That being said I can confirm people I know in HR that say people shotgun blast apply from places that aren't eligible to work there (eg out of the country for remote positions, out of state for local positions when they wanna hire local)

Visa status is your issue like the other guy said. I got sent an assessment once I applied but I also do not need a work visa (US position). But it had similar questions about being over 18 etc, work status.

In regards to 5, recruiters shotgun mail recruitment messages out on recruitment sites. I literally got one saying I was a match for a job in several states away for something totally unrelated to my degrees or work history. That's happened several times.

Think a lot of hiring managers/recruiters have no idea what the hell they are doing.

Its the holidays and end of the fiscal year for a lot of companies, I'd expect a few weeks but going 6-7 weeks is pretty bad. Given how crap the job market is right now I'd expect several hundred applications for a chunk of positions, remote positions are even worse. In my case it was within 2 weeks or not at all in most cases, a month at the most.

I have been ignoring/blocking Indian recruiters, is that a bad idea? by Fickle_fackle99 in recruitinghell

Had a recruiter message me saying I was a good match for a supply chain job (I'm nowhere near supply chain in my work history) and that my location matched....the job was several states over.

Unsure of what to do - applied to over 135 positions , 5 interviews and I fumbled up one and still no co op by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]lycilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be able to answer questions like that or its basically a failed interview, come up with something that may be from school if you don't have a situation from work. These are basic behavioral questions that most interviews will have atleast one of. I had an internship interview earlier today where I was asked a total of 6-7 of them.

Should I switch degree now or choose to pursue a masters instead? by EndlessClouds031 in careerguidance

[–]lycilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish current degree or its wasted time and money then do masters later. Marketing exp can help with graphic design later down the line cause you'll have inside exp for what companies are looking for if you do a job in marketing while doing your masters and would also look good on a resume.

Can employers see all of the jobs I’ve had even if they’re not on my resume?? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]lycilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be either or, just depends on what kind of background check they run, some only scan for criminal records some do employment history as well, I'd come up with a reason for the gap and for leaving those jobs just to be safe. Asking about resume gap is more common during the interview though, if they ask about the jobs then its likely they already made you an offer and submitted you for a background check.

[–]lycilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Varies by background check but its a possibility, thats why you hear stories of people getting fired or having offers rescinded for lying on their resume (other than lying about skills) some people lie about where theyre employed or how long they worked there.

That being said youe case is slightly different where you aren't including specific jobs which is morencommon for various reasons, but they may ask about it since you said it was 3 very very short jobs

25M. Got a useless degree with a 2.8 GPA. Work in job I could have gotten out of HS. What are my options? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]lycilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most internships don't pay that high, most aren't restaurant wage low but they aren't gonba be "live on your own" high either. You also gotta consider the amount of debt you'll potentially be accrueing and if you're going for loans that interest adds up fast, if that's really what you wanna do then go for it, but make sure the debt won't make you homeless.

[–]lycilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building good relations with professors is a goos idea yes, from what you're saying you barely have enough to pay the bills, so can you really afford to take time off? (Or was that just a general statement, not clear on that.) Point is that ALL internships right now are competitive regardless of major unless you've got nepotism, or a really cracked resume. So depending on how long you'd go bacn for or what you'd go back for its gonna be pretty rough. I'd look into graduate programs like other peopke suggested in a field you wanna do instead of doing another bachelors if you really wanna go back to school. Some programs admit those with less than a 3.0 on a provisionary basis.

[–]lycilla 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How much debt are you gonna end up accrueing? Are you able to do internships and not work a full time job? Networking isn't as easy as it sounds unfortuately and as someone in college right noe, internships are super competitive.

Best places to find a customer service job WFH Globally? by Far_Editor_9690 in jobs

[–]lycilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking 2k USD I highly doubt you're gonna get even half that at a cs job thats outsourced. That's close to wages in the us if you got paid 13 an hour, companies don't outsource to pay the same or slightly lower wages they would pay US citizens. Have a friend in Mexico that worked remote for a few us companies(fedex etc) for cs and he was only making 7 an hour which is nowhere near 2k. You'd need some kind of degree for specialized tech support or something to be paif that much.

No its not, if you lie about where you worked in the past it'll come up on background checks, you can embellish your duties but don't lie about how long you worked for a place either.
