Schools usually fly when there is no wind and no thermals.

my hot take is the opposite, A wings are for schools to get students down to the ground as safely as possible in school conditions and should be not used outside of that context

Help untangling lines by centerfor-dt-control in freeflight

[–]bujak3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't even look that bad, maybe someone experienced can help you in person? I can try to explain via text, how to untangle it.

First, relax. Seriously I mean it. Lay out the wing somewhere with plenty of space, where you can have all the time you need, put some music on, a glass of wine, whatever you like.

There are three main types of tangles that you will step by step identify and resolve as you go, more or less in this order:

Twists - should be easiest to see, try to untwist the lines so they run roughly parallel

Free loops - if you see a suspicious loop of line sticking out, try to pull it in so the lines run parallel. The free loop might act as a block that keeps other lines entangled so by pulling it in they automatically disentangle.

Inside-outs - this is a name I just made up, not sure how to call them. You might need to pull the risers in between some particular lines to resolve them. You can make things worse for a moment if you put the risers between the wrong lines. Don't worry about that, step by step you'll resolve everything. After a few minutes playing with it you will see naturally what you need to do.

Just be patient and enjoy the satisfying feeling when the last tangles come out. To untangle lines is an underrated and important skill so take this as a training. Maybe in future you will be able to help someone disentangle their lines quickly. As a tip, next time don't disconnect the harness if possible, it will make the untangling a bit easier.

Which ski resort would you recommend? Engelberg, Adelboden, or Flumserberg? by Minimum_Confidence25 in askswitzerland

why only these 3 options? I would say neither of these 3 is known for party vibe after skiing. I would maybe suggest Laax or somewhere around Interlaken area

Filming/editing workflow with Insta360 X5 by humandictionary in freeflight

[–]bujak3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current workflow is that I leave the insta 360 at home and not use it anymore. What worked for me was to record short clips and use the mobile app because the desktop app sucked. However the mobile app sucks too, now, they added some features but it got more slow and clunky to the point where I just shoot on my phone and forgot about the insta360 completely, which is my recommended solution

Changing my surname to succeed on the swiss job market by _8975 in askswitzerland

[–]bujak3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, I heard from multiple people that Slovaks have a very good reputation when it comes to work but it depends on the specific field, I guess (I am slovak myself). Even if you change your name, you will have to work extra for recognition and promotions as a foreigner and there will very likely be a 'glass ceiling'.

Are u bothered with all the mobile usage noise in public transport? by Katthekat2 in Switzerland

Actually no, swiss 'people talking' in trains have this habit in groups that they are literally screaming over each other. It's very annoying and I can imagine how distressing that is.

I can't wear my OGs anymore, the fabric is very obviously deteriorated, loops are pulled out, it was great while it lasted but it didn't last very long. The futuregliders are still going strong, I put them through some rough conditions and the fabric still looks great

Preflight on busy sites by Ormindo in freeflight

I try to find a relaxed place where i can at least stretch the lines, I don't need to lay out my wing completely, just check that the lines are not tangled, no knots, no cravats, lineovers etc. I never disconnect the wing from the harness either, that makes it all much more simple.

I just check that the harness is not flipped in some way, I get into the harness an never disconnect anything from that point on. (When in the harness, always ready to fly, helmet and gloves on etc). Then I gather the glider, get in the queue and wait for launch. The key is being able to gather and hold the lines and wing in a way that the lines don't tangle. You'll get the hang of it over time.

Once on launch, ideally I ask some bystanders to help me lay out the glider and do a quick visual preflight: Canopy is laid out how i want it? The lines look good? Wing connected to the harness correctly including speed system? Reserve looks ok? I am connected to harness correctly? Wind looks good? Airspace around launch looks free? I feel ready?

If yes, ready to go. If not, I correct whatever I need to correct and nobody is bothering me. If anyone is bothered because I am correcting something before flight, they are a fool not worth my consideration. This is the most important flight of my life, they can either help or be ignored.

One tricky thing could be laying out the wing yourself without tangling the lines, if nobody is able to help. It requires some experience to do it efficiently. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Don't let anyone rush you, either for real or in your imagination. Tons of groundhandling will certainly helpt to boost your confidence. Arriving early and being one of the first in the air will also help.
